What the season actually looks like
November through March is the heart of it: roof down at any hour, including midday. October and April are the shoulder, evenings and early mornings open, afternoons roof-up with the AC on. First, sun exposure is real even in January. Two roof-down hours on a clear afternoon will burn unprotected skin, and the dashboard sun can tire you before the drive does. Renters who love their convertible week treat it like a beach day: sunscreen, sunglasses, water in the cabin. Second, roof-down security: never leave anything visible in an open car, even at a valet. You can, and we'll rent you one, but we'd talk you through what you're buying first. From May to September the roof realistically stays up outside the very early morning, daytime highs are dangerous for open-air driving, not just uncomfortable. With the roof shut, a convertible is heavier, noisier and less rigid than the equivalent coupe, so you'd be paying more for less car. If your dates are fixed in summer and the open-top matters, plan around dawn drives, they're genuinely lovely. Otherwise book the coupe and save the difference.
Which months are best, and how far ahead should I book?
November to March is the sweet spot, with roof-down driving available around the clock.
