Ford Ranger 2023 - start from 328 AED / day

A double-cab that carries five people, a week's worth of gear in an open bed, and still has the four-wheel drive to leave the tarmac when you want to: that's the Ford Ranger 2023, and we deliver it across Dubai in one to two hours with 250 km a day built into the rate. This is the 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 on four-wheel drive, 292 hp, and the reason to rent it is versatility rather than any single trick. It hauls, it seats a family, it tows, and it handles a graded desert track without breaking sweat. The question this page answers is whether that flexibility is worth the size and the fuel, or whether a normal SUV would serve your week better.

The cargo bed, and what it actually solves

Start with the thing an SUV can't match: the open load bed behind the cabin. It takes the awkward, dirty, oversized loads that no boot wants. A pile of luggage for a big group, camping and diving kit, a couple of bikes, building or moving gear, all of it drops in and gets tied down without worrying about the cabin.

For a group heading out to the desert or the coast for a few days, that bed is the whole argument. You carry five people inside in real comfort and everything else in the back. If your week involves moving bulky things or hauling kit that would ruin a car interior, the Ranger just makes the problem disappear.

The cabin, and carrying people

Renters used to older pickups are usually surprised by how civilised this one is inside. It's wide, sits you up high with a commanding view, and the rear bench has genuine adult space rather than the token seats trucks used to get away with. Five people travel in comfort, not on sufferance.

That's what separates a modern double-cab from a work truck. You can take the family to dinner and the desert in the same vehicle, and nobody in the back is complaining on the way to either. The 292 hp V6 makes it quick for its size too, so it never feels like you're driving something slow to move something heavy.

Off-road ability, and whether you'll use it

The four-wheel drive and generous clearance mean the Ranger shrugs off graded desert tracks and soft ground that stop a normal crossover. The runs out toward Al Qudra and Lahbab are exactly the kind of terrain it's built for, and with the tyre pressures dropped and some know-how it handles the dunes well.

Be honest about whether that's your week, though. Most rentals in this city never leave the asphalt, and if yours won't either, you're paying for capability you won't touch and fighting the size for no reward. The Ranger is worth its rate when the off-road ability and the load bed both earn their keep. If neither does, a mid-size SUV is the smarter rent.

Fuel, parking and staying cool

A 292 hp petrol V6 in a truck this size is not frugal, and there's no pretending otherwise. The saving grace is the 80-litre tank, which gives a sensible touring range even with heavy use, and Dubai's cheap petrol makes the cost per kilometre far easier to swallow than it would be elsewhere. The included 250 km a day covers normal running, with 1 AED per kilometre beyond that.

Parking is the everyday catch. At nearly 5.4 metres long this is a large vehicle, so tight Marina bays and steep multi-storey ramps need real care, and some bays simply won't take it, so plan ahead rather than assume. On the open road none of that matters. The large cabin takes a moment longer to cool in the summer, but the AC is strong and there are rear vents, so back passengers aren't baking. Salik tolls run on the rental account, RTA fines during the hire pass to you, and children under four need a child seat, which we can fit.

Who should rent it, and who shouldn't

Rent the Ranger 2023 if your week genuinely uses what it offers: five seats plus an open bed for gear, four-wheel drive for the desert, and the power to make light of a full load. For a group with kit to carry or a trip that mixes tarmac and sand, it's the do-everything choice, and it's a lot more comfortable than pickups used to be.

Skip it if your driving is school runs, malls and airport pickups with normal luggage. You'll spend more on fuel, wrestle the size in every car park, and never use the bed or the four-wheel drive. For that, a mid-size SUV is cheaper, easier and just as practical. The Ranger pays off when you'll actually load it and take it off the road.
