The roof and the heat that decides when to use it

The fix is simple. Roof down at dawn and dusk, roof up through the hot hours. With the top up the cabin is small, so the AC pulls it back to comfortable faster than a big SUV would, though the first minute after a sunny park is still rough on the wheel. Vent through the windows for thirty seconds, then close up and let the front vents do the work.

Seats and luggage, the honest version

The Mustang is a 2+2. The front seats are generous and comfortable for a tall driver, but the two behind are a token gesture, knees in the seatback and head near the folded roof. Fine for kids or a ten-minute hop, miserable for an adult on a cross-town airport run.

The boot tells the same story. At roughly 330 litres, with the folding roof eating into the space, you'll fit a couple of soft bags or one medium case plus a backpack. Two people travelling light are well served. Four adults with full luggage, this is the wrong car, and a sedan or crossover is the call.

Living with it in town and on the highway

At nearly 4.8 metres and low to the ground, the Mustang wants patience in the city. Tight multi-storey bays and Marina ramps are the daily friction, and the 137 mm of clearance means steep mall ramps and aggressive speed bumps need a slow, square approach to avoid scraping the nose. The long bonnet and poor over-shoulder view add a couple of seconds to every reverse park.

Out on the E11 it comes alive, settling into a relaxed cruise with plenty held back for an overtake. It's built for straight-line confidence rather than tight corners, a cruiser with attitude. Rear-wheel drive means the tail can step out on a rare damp morning if you're heavy with the throttle, so ease in after rain. Salik tolls and any RTA fines during the rental are billed to you, and the cameras here are unforgiving on a car that builds speed this easily, so keep half an eye on the limit.
