Z4 roadster versus a 2 Series or 4 Series coupe

This is the choice most people are really making, so I'll take a side. If the open roof matters to you, rent the Z4 and accept the compromises. If it doesn't, a 2 Series or 4 Series coupe is the smarter pick: rear seats you can use, a bigger boot, the same BMW driving feel, and a fixed roof that's quieter and cooler in the heat. The coupe is the more sensible car nearly every way you measure it. The roadster wins on exactly one thing, and it's the thing you came for. Don't rent a Z4 for practicality and then resent it. Base model or the M40i

Both versions are good, and the base car already feels quick. The four-cylinder turbo has plenty for Dubai roads and is the easier one to recommend for most people who just want the experience.

The M40i is the one to ask for if pace is the draw. It runs the punchy straight-six and a sharper, firmer setup, and the extra muscle is obvious the moment you open it up on a clear stretch of highway. It's the better car to drive hard and the one that sounds the part with the roof down. If your trip is mostly relaxed coast cruising, the base car is plenty and lighter on fuel. If you want the proper roadster hit, book the M40i and tell us early, because we hold fewer of them.
