Picture the week you actually have planned: morning runs to the office, a grocery hop, friends to ferry from the airport, and a budget you'd rather keep for the trip itself. That's the job the Toyota Yaris 2025 does without fuss, and we rent it in Dubai from age 18, while most of the market makes you wait until 21. It's a small, automatic Toyota that asks almost nothing of you. The argument of this page is simple: for stress-free city driving and airport runs on a tight budget, the Yaris is one of the easiest cars you can put in your hands. Where it falls short is room and outright pace, and I'll tell you when to size up.

What you're actually renting

This is the front-wheel-drive 1.5-litre Yaris, automatic, five seats, finished in dark gray. The 106 horsepower won't pin you back, but that was never the point. Toyota built this car to start every morning, sip fuel, and need nothing from you between rentals. Parking, ramps and the daily grind

At 4.4 metres long and 1.73 wide, the Yaris is small enough to make Dubai parking a non-event. Tight multi-storey bays in older Deira buildings, the spiral ramps under a Marina tower, the awkward U-turn on a residential street: none of it raises your heart rate. You see the corners, the steering is light, and reversing into a snug spot takes one go rather than three.

The 175 mm of ground clearance is normal sedan height, so community speed bumps and standard mall ramps are fine at a sensible crawl. It isn't a car for kerb-hopping or unpaved tracks, but nobody rents a Yaris for that. For someone new to driving on the right or new to the city, this is about as forgiving as a rental gets.

Heat and how fast the cabin cools

Summer is the real test, and a small cabin is an advantage here. When the car has been baking in a car park and the dash reads close to 45, the Yaris pulls the temperature down quickly once you get the air moving, because there's simply less space to cool. Drop the windows for the first thirty seconds to dump the worst of the trapped heat, set the AC to recirculate, and you're comfortable within a couple of minutes. Front vents do the work well. Rear passengers rely on airflow from the front rather than their own vents, which is the norm in this class and fine for the school run, less ideal with three adults in the back on a long, hot afternoon.

Fuel, range and how often you'll stop

This is where the Yaris earns its keep. The 42-litre tank paired with a frugal 1.5-litre engine means a week of normal city driving barely touches your fuel spend. Toyota quotes economy north of 20 km per litre, and while real Dubai driving, with the AC on full and stop-start traffic, lands closer to the mid-teens, that's still excellent. Expect to refill once across a typical week rather than mid-trip. On a careful highway run you'll see better than the city figure, so a fill-up comfortably covers a round trip to Abu Dhabi with margin to spare.

On the road: city easy, highway honest

Around town the Yaris is in its element. Light controls, a tight turning circle, and just enough poke to keep up with traffic off the lights. On Sheikh Zayed Road it cruises happily at the limit and sits steady in lane. Be honest with yourself about overtaking, though. With 106 horsepower and a CVT, an uphill pass or a quick gap-grab above 100 needs planning, not a stab of the throttle. Leave room, plan the move, and it's perfectly safe. Airport runs to DXB or the longer haul to DWC are no trouble at all, with the boot doing the heavy lifting.

Luggage and who fits

The 476-litre boot is genuinely useful for the car's size and is the clearest sign this is the sedan, not a small hatch. Two large suitcases plus a couple of cabin bags slot in, which covers a couple arriving for a week or a small family doing a mall-and-beach holiday. Inside, two adults up front sit comfortably, and two in the back are fine for city hops. Put a third adult across the rear bench for a long airport transfer and it gets tight, both on shoulder room and on the boot if everyone brought a full case.

A quick word on the local rules, since they catch visitors out. Salik tolls and any RTA fines run to you, the renter, not us, so keep an eye on the speed signs and the gantries. Seat belts are mandatory in every seat, front and back.

The verdict

Rent the Yaris if you want a cheap, dependable automatic for city errands, daily commuting and airport pickups, especially if you're 18 to 20 and locked out elsewhere. It parks anywhere, sips fuel, and never makes a drama of a Dubai summer. If you regularly carry four adults with luggage, or you spend most of your week on the highway wanting effortless overtaking, step up to a Corolla for the extra cabin space and the calmer cruise. For everyone else doing ordinary city miles, the Yaris is the sensible money.
