Park outside the Spinneys, run in for groceries, slot back into a half-size bay on the way home, and you've used the Grand i10 for exactly what it's good at. We rent the Hyundai Grand i10 2023 across Dubai with doorstep delivery and 250 km a day baked into every booking, which is more daily distance than most short city trips will ever touch. It's an automatic economy hatchback built for one or two people doing errands and a short commute. This page is about whether that fits your week, or whether you should size up.
If you're a single renter or a couple, mostly pottering around the neighbourhood with the occasional run down Sheikh Zayed Road, the Grand i10 does the job cheaply and without fuss. The 1.2-litre engine makes 84 horsepower through an automatic gearbox, which is plenty for traffic-light sprints and merging onto an arterial.
What it isn't is a highway cruiser. Above 100 km/h it gets noisy and the overtakes need planning, so if you're commuting from one emirate to another every day, or you regularly carry four adults, this is the wrong car. For that, look at an i20 or a small sedan. The Grand i10's pitch is that it feels a touch roomier inside than the very smallest city cars, while staying just as easy to park.
| Spec | Detail |
|---|---|
| Class / body | Economy hatchback |
| Seats | 5 |
| Engine | 1.2-litre petrol |
| Power | 84 hp |
| Transmission | Automatic |
| Fuel tank | 43 litres |
| Boot | 256 litres |
| Dimensions (L x W x H) | 3,765 x 1,660 x 1,520 mm |
| Ground clearance | 165 mm |
This is where the Grand i10 earns its keep. At under 3.8 metres long it tucks into bays that a sedan driver circles past three times. Tight multi-storey ramps in the Marina and the older mall car parks hold no fear for it, and the turning circle makes a U-turn on a narrow side road a single clean move rather than a three-point shuffle.
The 165 mm of ground clearance is normal for the class. It clears Dubai's speed bumps and steep mall entrances without scraping, as long as you take the sharper ramps at a sensible angle. Don't read that number as off-road ability, though. This is a tarmac car, full stop.
A small cabin is the Grand i10's quiet advantage in July. When the car has been baking in a surface lot and the dashboard is too hot to touch, there's simply less air to chill, so the AC pulls the cabin down to something bearable inside a couple of minutes. The front vents do the real work here. Crack the windows for the first ten seconds to dump the worst of the trapped heat, then close up and let it run, and a short hop across town stays comfortable.
Be realistic about the back, though. On the hottest afternoons rear-seat passengers feel the heat longer than the people up front, because cold air has to travel from the dash. For two people that's a non-issue. For a full load of four in August, it's something to know.
The 43-litre tank is generous for a car this size. In typical Dubai stop-and-go city driving a 1.2 hatch like this sits around 6 to 7 litres per 100 km, so a single fill comfortably covers a normal week of errands and a short daily commute before you think about the pump again. Lean more on the highway and you'll do even better per kilometre, though you'll be working the little engine harder to keep pace.
Petrol here is cheap, the car is light, and the 250 km a day included in your rental means most renters never go near an excess-distance line. For a week of school runs, grocery trips and the odd airport drop, fuel is close to an afterthought.
The 256-litre boot is honest small-hatch space. One large suitcase plus a soft bag or a couple of backpacks is the realistic limit with the rear seats up. Two people heading to DXB with a case each will manage. A family of four with full holiday luggage will not, and that's the clearest signal to size up to a sedan with a proper trunk. Drop the rear seats and the i10 swallows a flat-pack run or a big grocery haul without complaint, which is the more common real-world use anyway.
A few practical points the desk always covers. Salik tolls run on your account during the rental, so each gantry you pass through is yours to settle, and any RTA traffic or parking fine registered against the car passes to you. Seat belts are mandatory in every seat, front and back. None of this is unique to the Grand i10, but it's worth keeping in mind on a week of city driving where the toll gantries add up quietly.
Rent the Grand i10 if you're one or two people who want the cheapest, easiest car to live with in the city: light on fuel, effortless to park, and roomier inside than the tiniest hatchbacks. It handles the daily grind of Dubai errands and short commutes without ever making you think about it.
Skip it if you regularly carry four adults, do long daily highway miles, or need to fit a full family's luggage. Above 100 km/h it runs out of puff, and the boot has limits. For those weeks, an i20 or a compact sedan is the smarter spend. For everything a city car is supposed to do, the Grand i10 is hard to beat on cost and convenience.
