We bring the Toyota Yaris 2020 to your door in Dubai within an hour or two, and there's a no-deposit option so you don't have to lock up a chunk of your card to drive off. It's the small, automatic Toyota people reach for when the priority is a cheap, no-drama week of city miles. This page makes one case: if you're a solo driver or a couple running errands, commuting and doing the odd airport pickup, the Yaris hatchback is about the easiest and cheapest sensible car we hand out. Where it asks you to compromise is boot space and outright pace, and I'll be straight about both.
The reason to pick this car is what it costs you over a week. The 44-litre tank feeds a frugal 1.5-litre engine, so normal Dubai city driving barely dents your fuel spend. Expect real-world figures in the high 6s to mid 7s litres per 100 km once the AC is working and you're sitting in stop-start traffic. That works out to one refill across a typical week rather than a mid-trip hunt for a station. On a steady highway run it does better still, so a single fill covers a round trip down to Abu Dhabi with margin left.
Here's the hardware before the judgement calls.

At just over four metres long and under 1.7 wide, this is a properly small car, and in Dubai that's a daily advantage. The tight bays in older Deira and Karama buildings, the spiral ramp under a Marina tower, the U-turn on a narrow residential street: none of it is a fight. You can see all four corners, the steering is light, and you drop it into a snug spot first time. For anyone new to driving here or new to the right-hand side of the road, it's a forgiving thing to learn the city in.
The 140 mm of ground clearance is low, so take steep mall ramps and the harsher community speed bumps at a crawl rather than at speed. On normal roads it's a non-issue, and you'd never rent a Yaris for kerbs or unpaved tracks anyway.
The boot is decent for such a small car, around 447 litres behind the rear seats, but be realistic about what that means. One large suitcase plus a couple of soft bags is the comfortable load. Two people travelling light are fine. Drop the rear seats and you free up a long, flat space for bulkier kit, a bike box or a flat-pack run. Where it runs out is the full family airport collection: four adults with full-size cases will be stacking bags on laps, and that's the point I'd tell you to look at a sedan like the Corolla or the Yaris sedan with its bigger boot instead.
A small cabin is an advantage in a Dubai July. After the car has been baking in an open lot with the dash reading close to 45, the Yaris pulls the temperature down fast once you get the air moving, simply because there's less space to cool. Drop the windows for the first thirty seconds to dump the trapped heat, set the AC to recirculate, and you're comfortable inside a couple of minutes. The front vents do the work well. Back-seat passengers rely on airflow from the front rather than their own outlets, which is normal in this class and fine for short hops, less ideal with three adults in the back on a long, hot afternoon.
Around town the Yaris is in its element. Light controls, a tight turning circle, and just enough off-the-line poke to keep pace with traffic. On Sheikh Zayed Road it'll sit at the limit comfortably and hold its lane. Be honest with yourself about overtaking, though. With 106 horsepower an uphill pass or a quick gap-grab above 100 needs a bit of planning rather than a stab of throttle. Leave room, line the move up, and it's perfectly safe. Airport runs to DXB or the longer haul out to DWC are no trouble for the engine; the only constraint is how much luggage you're asking the boot to swallow.
One local note that catches visitors out: Salik tolls and any RTA fines run to you as the renter, not to us, so watch the gantries and the speed signs. Seat belts are required in every seat, and a child under four needs a proper child seat, which we can fit on request.
Rent the Yaris 2020 if you want the cheapest sensible automatic for city errands, the daily commute and light airport duty, and you value easy parking and low fuel bills over space. It slips into gaps bigger cars can't, it sips fuel, and it shrugs off a Dubai summer. Size up to a Corolla or a sedan if you regularly carry four adults with luggage, or if you spend most of the week overtaking on the highway and want effortless pull. For ordinary solo and two-up city miles on a budget, this is the one that makes the most financial sense.
