Tesla Model X 2023 - start from 799 AED / day

The Model X makes most sense on the long stuff: airport runs with four or five people aboard, an hour down the E11 to Abu Dhabi, a week of school drop-offs where nobody has to argue about the middle seat. We rent the Tesla Model X 2023 in Dubai with doorstep delivery in one to two hours and 300 km a day included, which covers that kind of driving without much thought. This one is the six-seat car, so the second row is two captain's chairs instead of a bench. That single detail changes the family maths more than anything else on the spec sheet, and it's where this page starts.

Luggage, and what six seats cost you

With all three rows in use you get 425 litres in the deep rear well, plus another 183 litres in the front boot where an engine would otherwise sit. Two large hard cases go in the back with room left for soft bags, and the frunk swallows the laptop bags and the duty free so nothing rides in the cabin. Most three-row SUVs cannot manage that with the last row up.

The catch comes when you want the full load bay. Captain's chairs tilt forward rather than folding flat, so the six-seat car never gives you the clean, level floor a five-seat one does. Drop the third row and there's plenty of room for four people travelling properly. Try to slide something long and flat down the middle, a bike or a flat-pack shelf, and the seat backs will fight you.

Who actually fits, and how the cabin copes in July

The two middle chairs are the best seats in the car. Adults get proper shoulder and knee room, and the gap between them means anyone heading to the third row walks through instead of climbing over a folded seat. If you're travelling with a child seat strapped in behind you, that walkway saves you a fight at every stop.

The third row is honest short-haul space. Two adults will sit back there happily enough for the twenty minutes to DXB, and kids will do a run to Hatta without complaint. Six adults plus a week of luggage at the same time is asking too much, and we'd rather say so now than at the kerb.

Cooling is the Dubai summer question, and the huge curved windscreen carries on over your head, so a car left in an open lot at 45 degrees takes on real heat through glass. The answer is the phone app. You start the climate system while you're still walking out of the mall, and with no engine warming up alongside it, the cabin is properly cold by the time you open the door. Second and third row passengers get their own vents. Pre-cooling costs a little range and is worth every kilometre of it.

What a week actually costs to run

The 100 kWh battery is rated at up to 560 km, and like every EV rating that number assumes gentle driving and mild weather. Neither applies here. With the AC working through August and a normal amount of highway speed, plan on 380 to 430 km from a full charge. For most renters that is one charge every two or three days.

The running cost is the part people underestimate in the right direction. DEWA's EV Green Charger network bills around AED 0.70 per kWh on AC and AED 1.20 per kWh on DC fast charging, so filling this battery from low costs somewhere between AED 70 and AED 120. A petrol SUV of the same size and weight costs noticeably more over a week. There are hundreds of DEWA points across the city, and Tesla's own Superchargers in the UAE run at up to 250 kW, which turns a serious top-up into a coffee stop rather than an evening.

Two admin notes. Your 300 km a day is included and anything past it is billed at AED 0.5 per extra kilometre. Salik tolls and any RTA fines during the booking pass to you as the driver.

The doors, the ramps, and the bit the desk warns you about

Falcon doors are the reason people book this car and the reason a few regret where they parked it. Fully open, they need roughly 2.3 metres of clearance above the car. Plenty of Dubai multi-storey levels and older villa garages sit closer to 2.1 metres. The doors do have sensors that detect a low ceiling and stop short, and you can set a reduced opening height for a spot you use daily, but that is something to check before you back into a tight covered bay rather than after.

The upside is real too. Because the doors go up rather than out, passengers get in and out in a bay so narrow that a normal SUV's rear doors would be useless.

At just over five metres long and two metres wide this is a big thing to place, and the cameras do most of that work. The air suspension is the other tool. Raise it for a steep mall ramp or one of the aggressive speed bumps in older communities and the car keeps its nose. On Sheikh Zayed Road it settles low and quiet, and overtaking takes no planning at all.

Who should rent it

Book the Model X if you're moving four or five people with real luggage, your week involves airport runs and highway distance, and you're comfortable planning one charging stop every couple of days. It's the most comfortable way to move a small group in Dubai without stepping up to a full-size American SUV, and it costs less to run than anything else its size.

Look elsewhere in two cases. If you genuinely need seven belts on the same trip, this six-seat layout will not stretch, and a Suburban or a Patrol makes more sense. And if you park in a low-ceiling garage every night or have no easy access to a charger, the Model X will spend the week reminding you of it. For everyone else, it's the rare rental that's better on the fifth day than the first.
