The boot, and why it beats a hatch

Suzuki kept the Dzire under four metres for parking and tax reasons, then gave it a proper saloon trunk instead of a hatchback's shallow shelf. Two large suitcases and a soft bag drop in without a fight, which is exactly what you want collecting a couple of people and their luggage from the airport on a tight budget. The deep, square shape loads easily, and because the boot sits separate from the cabin, the rear seats stay clear for passengers. For a solo traveller or two people with bags, this is the Dzire's whole pitch, and few cars this cheap to run match it for luggage.

What it costs to keep moving

This is where the value lives. The 37-litre tank is small, but the 1.2-litre petrol sips, so the two cancel out and then some. In real Dubai city driving with the AC running, expect somewhere in the 11.6 to 15.0 km/L band, which works out to roughly 550 to 700 km on a tank. A typical week of commuting, school runs and errands means one fill, maybe a top-up before you hand the keys back. Drive gently on the highway and you'll edge toward the upper figure; sit in summer crawl traffic with the compressor fighting 45-degree heat and you'll land nearer the lower one. The cabin, and how four adults fit

Inside, the Dzire is honest about its price. The plastics are hard, the trim is plain, and everything works without fuss. Two adults up front have room to spare, and the back seat is comfortable for two or three at a squeeze on shorter trips. Four grown adults plus a week of cases is where it gets tight, and that's the point to look at a Honda City or a Suzuki Ciaz for more shoulder room and a softer ride. As a commuter for one or two, or a budget airport car for a small group travelling light, it's well judged.

Power, heat and the daily reality

The 1.2-litre petrol drives the front wheels and makes 83 hp, enough for city speeds, Salik gates and keeping pace in traffic. Push past 100 on Sheikh Zayed Road and you feel the modest output: overtaking takes planning, and a full cabin with the AC working hard saps what urgency there is. For one or two people on city miles and the odd highway stretch it's fine; for regular high-speed runs with passengers, size up. The small cabin pays off in summer, since there's less air to chill, so a baking parked interior comes down quickly. The front vents blow cold and strong. If you're carrying four adults regularly, living on Sheikh Zayed Road at highway speed, or you simply want a quieter, plusher cabin, step up to a Honda City or a Ciaz.
