Suzuki Baleno 2023 - start from 118 AED / day

Skip the deposit and you can have a Suzuki Baleno 2023 outside your door in Dubai within a couple of hours, which is the whole point of this car: cheap to rent, cheap to run, and no big hold on your card while you've got it. We deliver the Baleno across the city as a five-seat economy hatch built around one job, getting you through a week of errands without much thought and without many fuel stops. It's roomier inside than its small footprint suggests, and the boot is genuinely useful. This page is about whether that's enough for your trip, or whether you should step up to something with more pace or a bigger tail.

What you're actually renting

The Baleno is a 1.5-litre petrol hatch with a 4-speed automatic and front-wheel drive, putting out 103 hp. That's modest on paper and it feels modest, but it's plenty for the way most people use a rental in town. The gearbox is an old-school 4AT rather than a CVT, so it shifts in clear steps and never feels strained at city speeds. Light steering and a tight 5.1-metre turning circle make it one of the easier cars to thread through a packed Marina car park or a multi-storey ramp.

The cabin is the surprise. For a car under four metres long, three adults fit across the back without filing a complaint, and head and shoulder room beat what the price suggests. The trim is plain, hard plastics and a no-frills dash, but everything works and nothing rattles.

Fuel, and how often you'll stop

This is where the Baleno earns its keep. The official figures are 12 km/L in the city and 15 on the highway, and in real Dubai driving, with the AC fighting the heat and plenty of stop-start, expect the city end of that. The tank is small at 37 litres, so the headline range of roughly 444 km looks short, but you're sipping so little that it works out cheap. A normal week of school runs, supermarket trips and the odd commute means one fill, maybe two if you're driving a lot. For anyone watching the fuel budget, few automatics in this bracket touch it.

Boot and luggage

At 318 litres the boot is bigger than most rivals this size, and the shape is square and usable rather than awkward. Two medium cases and a couple of soft bags go in fine. Fold the rear seats and you get 646 litres, enough for a flat-pack run or a big grocery haul. The honest limit is airport luggage for a full car: four adults plus four large hard cases will have you stacking bags on laps. For a DXB or DWC hop with two or three people and normal luggage, it's comfortable.

Heat, AC and the small-cabin trade-off

A small cabin has one real advantage in a Dubai summer: there's less air to cool. Park the Baleno in the sun at 45 degrees and the AC pulls the heat out faster than it would in a big sedan, simply because there's less space to chill. The front vents push hard and the cabin settles within a few minutes. There are no rear vents, so back-seat passengers rely on the air working its way back, which is fine for two on city trips and slower to even out with a full car. Crack the windows for the first minute after a long park and it sorts itself quickly.

On the road, and where it runs short

Around town and up to highway-merge speed, the Baleno is easy and untaxing. The light build keeps it nippy off the line for a 1.5 with only four gears. Push past 100 on Sheikh Zayed Road, though, and you feel the limits. Overtaking at speed needs planning, the engine gets vocal when you ask for a quick burst, and crosswinds nudge a car this light around. It'll cruise at the limit all day, but it isn't built to hustle. If your week is mostly highway miles between emirates, a heavier car holds the road with less effort.

A few Dubai basics apply to any rental here. Salik tolls run off the car and come back to you, and any RTA fines during your hire are yours to settle. Belts are mandatory in every seat, front and back.

Who should rent the Baleno, and who shouldn't

Rent it if you want the cheapest sensible automatic for city life: errands, the school run, commuting, a small family that values low fuel bills and easy parking over badge or pace. For that renter the Baleno is hard to beat, and the no-deposit option keeps your cash free.

Skip it if you want fun behind the wheel, in which case the Swift is the livelier pick on the same kind of budget. And if you're carrying four adults with full airport luggage or living on the highway between cities, a compact sedan gives you the bigger boot and the steadier high-speed manners the Baleno can't quite match. For everyone else in town, it does exactly what a cheap rental should.
