Nissan Patrol 2022 - start from 529 AED / day

Black does something a fleet of white Patrols can't: it reads as an arrival, not just transport. Send this one to collect a client from the airport, or line it up in a wedding convoy, and the car has already made its point before anyone opens a door. We rent the Nissan Patrol 2022 in Dubai with doorstep delivery in one to two hours, and under that black paint sits the outgoing Y62-generation Patrol, built around the 5.6-litre V8 rather than the redesigned car that came after it. This page works out whether that presence is worth what a dark cabin costs you through a Dubai summer, and whether the seven seats and the 4x4 hardware underneath actually suit the trip you have planned.

The V8, and the arrival it makes

A 5.6-litre petrol V8 sits under the bonnet, making 400 hp at 5,800 rpm and 560 Nm at 4,000 rpm, sent through a seven-speed automatic to a genuine four-wheel-drive system with a low-range transfer case. It's body-on-frame construction, the same layout Nissan has used on the Patrol for years, not a crossover platform wearing rugged trim to match the paint. What that means for a business pickup or a convoy is smoothness at low speed. The V8 has so much torque on tap that it never needs to build revs or lurch off the line, so the car glides away from the kerb the way you want it to when people are watching. Once you're actually driving somewhere, that same reserve shows up as easy overtaking on Sheikh Zayed Road, and 0-100 km/h in around 6.6 seconds is quick for something over five metres long.

One thing worth checking before you book. A share of 2022 Patrols in the region carry a smaller 4.0-litre V6 instead of the V8, a decent engine on its own but a noticeably quieter one, without the pull described above. If the V8 is why you're choosing this car, ask us to confirm which engine your specific unit carries.

Seven seats, and the boot once your guests are in

Seven seats here means seven usable seats, which matters if this Patrol is doing double duty as a people carrier for an event and a family car the rest of the week. The middle row slides and tips forward on its own, so nobody climbs over a folded seatback to reach the third row, and adults back there can sit for a real drive rather than the short hop most three-row SUVs are built for. Collecting a group from the airport or ferrying wedding guests between venues, this is a car that seats six or seven adults without anyone negotiating for legroom.

The boot is where you plan ahead rather than assume. With all seven seats up, the space behind the last row takes a couple of holdalls and maybe a garment bag, not a stack of hard suitcases for a full car. Fold one side of the third row down and a proper load bay opens up beside it, enough for four or five large cases while five or six people still travel. Drop the whole row and it swallows a big family's luggage for a week with room spare. The day this catches people out is the one where every seat is filled and every case is packed at once, and for a formal pickup or a work trip that combination rarely comes up anyway.

Fuel, Salik and a black cabin in summer

Dark paint absorbs more heat than pale paint, and on a body this size the difference is real. Leave the Patrol in an open lot through a July afternoon and the roof, bonnet and door handles will be noticeably hotter to the touch than the same car in white. The cabin bakes through the glass regardless of what colour sits outside once the sun has had a few hours on it, but the black car starts from a deeper hole. Point the front vents at yourself and give it two or three minutes, and the rear vents are strong enough that the third row isn't waiting on whatever cold air the front seats leave behind.

Fuel tells an equally honest story. Nissan's combined figure sits around 14 L/100km, but a two-and-a-half-tonne V8 crawling through Dubai traffic with the AC working flat out tends to land closer to 16 or 17 in practice. The 140-litre tank absorbs most of that gap, so you're not hunting for a station every other day even with a heavy right foot.

Mileage is worth planning around too. This Patrol's daily allowance is 250 km, then AED 0.5 for every kilometre past that. City driving, airport pickups and an evening ferrying guests between venues sit comfortably inside it, but a full day out toward Hatta and back can close that gap faster than people expect, so tally the route before you leave rather than at drop-off. Salik tolls and any RTA fines are the renter's to cover, the same as on every car we hand over, and seat belts are required in every seat with a child seat mandatory for anyone under four.

Who this black Patrol suits, and who should look elsewhere

Book this one if the way the car looks matters as much as what it does. A business pickup, a wedding convoy, an evening where you want the Patrol's size to read as intent rather than accident, black earns its keep in exactly those moments, and the V8 and low-range 4x4 underneath mean it's just as capable the next morning on a family day out or a run toward the dunes. You'll need to be 21 to take the keys, one of the more accessible minimum ages for a car this size.

Look elsewhere if cabin heat bothers you more than the colour does, or if it's one or two of you running errands with the odd airport pickup. A white or silver Patrol on the same platform cools down faster after a few hours in the sun, and a mid-size crossover handles daily city driving on less fuel and with far less fuss at the wheel. This Patrol earns its size, its thirst and its extra minutes of cooling on the day it's actually making an arrival, not as a default because it's the biggest name on the list.
