Jeep Grand Cherokee 2021 - start from 384 AED / day

We hand over the Jeep Grand Cherokee 2021 across Dubai with payment sorted however suits you on the day, card, cash, or a wallet tap when the driver arrives. That flexibility matters less than what the car itself does, which is the rare trick of riding like a calm family SUV on the school run and then climbing a Hatta track or a soft dune on the weekend without drama. This is a midsize five-seat 4x4 with genuine off-road hardware, and the honest question for most renters is whether you actually need that second half. If you do, few cars in this size cover both jobs as well.

What it is, in one line

A comfortable midsize SUV with real four-wheel-drive ability. The 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 makes 293 hp, drives all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic, and gives you 218 mm of ground clearance to play with. It seats five, not seven, so read the family-size question carefully before you book.

Does your luggage fit

Yes, comfortably, for most trips. Behind the rear seats you get around 1,028 litres, which swallows the standard airport run: two or three large cases plus the soft bags and a stroller, with room left over. Fold the rear bench and you roughly double that. For a family of four flying in with a week of cases, this is one of the easier cars to load, and the wide tailgate opening means you're not playing Tetris in a hot car park. The only catch is the same as every five-seater. Five adults plus a full week of luggage starts to get tight, and at that point you want a sedan's separate boot or a bigger 4x4.

Heat and the cabin in summer

The cabin is large, so on a 45-degree afternoon it takes the AC a minute or two longer to pull the whole space down than a small hatch would. Once it's there it stays cold, and the rear passengers get their own vents, which is the part that actually decides comfort on a family trip. Park in shade where you can, drop the windows for the first ten seconds of driving to flush the worst of the heat, and the system handles the rest. Black is the colour you'll get, so a windscreen shade earns its keep here.

Salik, fines and the rules

Salik tolls and any RTA fines during your rental are billed to you, not us, so the gate beeps and speed cameras on Sheikh Zayed Road are your account to settle. Seat belts are required in every seat, and a child seat is mandatory for under-fours. None of this is unusual, but the Grand Cherokee's size means people forget it's quick enough to trip a camera without feeling fast, so watch the speedo on the E11.

Parking and city manners

This is where you trade off for the space. At 1,943 mm wide it's a broad car, and a tight Marina multi-storey bay or a packed mall basement asks for a careful line and the reversing camera. The clearance that helps you off-road also means a higher step in, which older passengers will notice. On the move it's easy, light steering, good visibility, and the suspension shrugs off the community speed bumps that jolt stiffer SUVs. For daily errands and the school run it's relaxed. For squeezing into the last bay at Marina Mall on a Friday night, it asks more of you than a compact crossover.

On the road and off it

On Sheikh Zayed Road the Grand Cherokee is in its element. The V6 has enough in reserve for confident overtaking, the ride is settled at cruising speed, and a DXB or DWC airport run is the kind of drive it does without fuss. Off the tarmac is the other half of the argument. With four-wheel drive and 218 mm of clearance, a Hatta mountain track or a graded desert trail is well within reach, and the car feels planted rather than nervous when the surface turns loose. Soft, steep dune-bashing is a different sport. For that you want a body-on-frame full-size 4x4 with low-range and the tyres aired down, but for the weekend trail, a wadi drive, or a campsite up an unsealed road, this does the job and brings you back in comfort.

What it costs to feed

Be honest with yourself on fuel. The official combined figure is around 11.2 l/100km, but Dubai stop-and-go traffic and the AC running flat out push real-world consumption higher, closer to 13 or 14 in mixed city use. The upside is the 93-litre tank. On a normal week of city driving plus an airport run or two, you're filling up maybe twice, and fuel here is cheap enough that the V6's thirst stings far less than it would elsewhere. If running cost is your top concern and you'll never leave the tarmac, a four-cylinder crossover will cost you less to keep moving.

Who should rent it

Rent the Grand Cherokee if you want one car that does both jobs: a roomy, comfortable daily for the family and the airport, plus real capability for weekend trips to Hatta or the desert. That dual ability is the whole point, and it earns its keep for anyone who actually uses it. If your week is pure city tarmac and economy matters most, a car-based crossover is the smarter rent. If you're planning serious soft-sand dune sessions or you need a third row of seats, size up to a full-size 4x4. For the in-between renter who wants comfort on the road and confidence off it, this is the one to book.
