Most rentals quietly start the meter once you pass 250 km in a day. The Mitsubishi Mirage 2025 we rent in Dubai doesn't, because there's no extra-kilometre charge on it, so a week of running around the city never turns into a fuel-and-mileage maths problem. That suits the car perfectly. The Mirage is the cheapest, thriftiest little hatch on the fleet, built for one or two people who want to get about town without thinking about the pump or the bill. The argument here is straightforward: if your week is errands, commuting, and the odd airport drop for a couple of people, this is the smart-money pick. For four adults and a boot full of cases, it isn't.
The Mirage is a 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol making 78 hp, driving the front wheels through a CVT automatic. That's a small engine in a light body, and it's tuned to sip fuel rather than chase pace. Around town that's exactly what you want. It pulls away cleanly, the steering is light, and it never feels like hard work in stop-start traffic. Ask it to surge past a truck on the open road with the AC flat out and you'll feel the limit, so plan your overtakes rather than expecting a shove.

This is the Mirage's whole reason to exist. With a frugal three-cylinder and a light body, real-world economy lands around 16 to 18 km/L in normal Dubai driving, even with the AC working. The tank is only 35 litres, but at that consumption a fill still carries you through most of a week of city running. You'll be at the pump less than in almost anything else we rent, and each fill costs little. Pair that with the included mileage and no per-kilometre charge, and the running cost over a week is about as low as Dubai gets.
At 3.78 metres long and under 1.7 wide, the Mirage is one of the easiest cars to place we hand over. Tight multi-storey bays, the squeeze into a Marina basement, a quick U-turn on a busy road, none of it asks much of you. The light steering and short body make it a genuinely relaxing car for someone who finds bigger cars stressful in town. The flip side is ground clearance: at 160 mm it's a low car, so take steep mall ramps and aggressive community speed bumps gently rather than at speed.
In a Dubai summer the question with any small car is how fast the cabin recovers after baking in the sun. The Mirage's small cabin actually helps here. There's less air to cool, so once the AC is running the front vents bring the temperature down quickly. Crack a window for the first thirty seconds to push the hot air out and it's comfortable fast. There aren't meaningful rear vents, so back-seat passengers cool a touch slower, but for one or two people up front it's a non-issue on the daily commute.
The boot holds 235 litres, which is honest small-hatch space. One large case plus a soft bag, or a decent supermarket run, fits without a fight. Fold the rear seats and you get a long flat floor for a flat-pack or a bulky purchase. Where it runs out is the full house: four adults with full-size suitcases heading to DXB at once is too much for this car, and that's the moment to size up to a sedan or a small SUV. For a couple with a case each, an airport run is fine.
A couple of Dubai points worth knowing before you set off. Salik tolls are billed to the renter as you pass the gantries, and any RTA fines during your rental pass to you, so keep to the limits on the E11. Seat belts are required in every seat, and a child seat is mandatory for under-fours, which we can fit on request. You can rent the Mirage from 18, where most of the market still asks for 21.
Rent the Mirage 2025 if you're one or two people who want the cheapest, most economical way to get around Dubai for a week, with parking that's never a worry and fuel bills that barely register. It's the value commuter of the fleet, and the included mileage with no extra-kilometre charge makes it cheaper still over a busy week. Look past it if you're carrying four adults regularly, want a boot for a week of hard cases, or expect strong highway pull for long hauls. For those, a sedan or small SUV is the honest call. But for solo drivers, couples, and tight-budget weeks, nothing on the fleet does the job for less.
