Here's an operational detail most rental pages bury: on the Mitsubishi Mirage 2021 we don't charge for extra kilometres. The 250 km a day is there, but go over and it's still zero per extra km, which is unusual and genuinely useful if you drive more than you plan to. We rent this little economy hatchback in Dubai to one or two people who want the cheapest, simplest way to get around the city. This page is straight about what the Mirage is and isn't: a frugal, easy runabout that's perfect for errands and the commute, and the wrong call for four adults with airport luggage.
Two numbers decide whether the Mirage is right for you. The first is that uncapped extra mileage, which means a week of unplanned driving never turns into a bill at the end. The second is fuel. The 1.2-litre three-cylinder is tuned for economy, returning a combined figure near 6.0 litres per 100 km, and with a roughly 35-litre tank that's close to 580 km of mixed city range. In practice a normal week of errands across Dubai means one fill, sometimes none. The heat and a hard-working AC push real consumption a touch above the lab number, but it stays cheap. Between the free extra km and the tiny fuel bill, this is about as low as the running cost of a week's rental gets.
The engine makes 78 hp and drives the front wheels through an automatic. That's a small motor in a light car, and it's honest about its job. Around town it keeps pace easily on 60 and 80 km/h roads, with light steering that makes tight manoeuvres simple. On Sheikh Zayed Road the limits show. Getting to 120 takes patience, and a quick overtake means planning ahead, because the engine runs short of breath past 100. It cruises fine on the E11 once it's up to speed, but think of it as a city car that occasionally visits the motorway, not the reverse. If your week is mostly fast highway stretches, size up.

A Dubai afternoon leaves any parked car uncomfortable, and the Mirage has one quiet advantage: there's very little cabin air to chill. Start it, set the AC to full, and the front vents pull the temperature down quickly because they aren't fighting a big interior. There are no rear outlets, which is fine for the front two and a bit slower for anyone in the back. Park in shade where you can and give it a minute before you load up. On the worst summer days the small cabin works firmly in your favour.
At under 3.8 metres long and only 1,666 mm wide, the Mirage is one of the easiest cars to park anywhere in Dubai. Marina basement bays, tight mall ramps, the multi-storey corners that make bigger cars hesitate, none of it is a problem here. The turning circle is small, so U-turns on the main roads take one bite. Ground clearance of around 160 mm is normal for the class, enough to clear standard speed bumps, though you'll still ease over the steep ones. If your week is mostly packed car parks and narrow streets, this is the car that makes that part painless.
The boot holds roughly 484 litres with the rear seats up, which is generous for a car this small. One large case and a couple of soft bags go in comfortably, plenty for two people on a week's stay. Fold the rear seats and you free up a lot more, though you lose the back seats to do it. For a solo traveller or a couple it covers an airport run with room to spare. For four adults landing at DXB with a full set of hard cases, it doesn't, and a small sedan would serve you better.
A few things to factor in. Salik tolls run on your account through the rental, so each gantry you cross is yours, and any RTA fines during the hire pass to the renter too. Seat belts are mandatory in every seat, and a child under four needs a proper child seat, which we can fit before delivery if you ask. Payment is flexible: card, cash, bank transfer, Apple Pay, Google Pay or crypto, and we deliver to your door, usually within a couple of hours.
Rent the Mirage 2021 if you're one or two people who mostly drive in the city and want the lowest possible cost for the week. Between the frugal engine and the uncapped extra kilometres, very little on the fleet is cheaper to run, and it parks itself. It's a sensible, no-fuss runabout.
Skip it if you regularly carry four adults, spend your days at 120 on the highway, or arrive with a pile of luggage. The engine is slow, the cabin is basic, and fast overtaking is a chore. For any of those, step up to a roomier hatch or a small sedan, and we'll sort it. But for the cheap city driving it was built for, the Mirage is hard to beat.
