You've got a week of errands across the city, a parking situation that punishes anything wide, and no interest in burning half your budget on fuel. That's the job the Mitsubishi Mirage 2020 was built for, and it's one we rent out a lot in Dubai for exactly this. We deliver it with 250 km a day included, which is plenty for the supermarket, the office, and a couple of dinner runs without ever watching the meter. This page is honest about what the Mirage is: one of the cheapest, most frugal little hatchbacks on our fleet, ideal for one or two people, and not the car for four adults with airport luggage.
The Mirage is an economy hatchback with a 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine making 78 hp, driving the front wheels through a CVT automatic. That's a small engine in a light car, and it's tuned for sipping fuel, not for pace. Around town it's perfectly fine. You'll never struggle to keep up with traffic on a 60 or 80 km/h road, and the light steering makes it genuinely easy to thread through tight spots.
Push it onto Sheikh Zayed Road and the limits show. Getting up to 120 takes patience, and overtaking at speed means planning ahead, because the engine runs out of breath above 100 and the CVT drones when you ask for more. It'll cruise on the E11 once it's there, but this is a city car that visits the highway, not the other way round. If most of your week is long fast motorway stretches, size up.

This is where the Mirage earns its keep. A combined figure near 6.0 L/100km is about as low as petrol gets, and with a roughly 35-litre tank you're looking at close to 580 km of mixed city driving on a fill. In practice, a normal week of errands across Dubai means filling up once, maybe not even that. Real-world economy in the heat with the AC working hard will be a touch thirstier than the lab figure, but it stays cheap. For a renter watching every dirham, that's the whole point of this car.
A Dubai summer afternoon can leave a parked car near unbearable, and the Mirage has one advantage here: the cabin is tiny, so there's very little air to chill. Start it, set the AC to full, and the front vents pull the temperature down quickly because they aren't fighting a big interior. There are no rear vents, which is fine for the front two and a bit slower for anyone in the back. Park in shade when you can, the same as with any car, but don't expect a long wait for cool air. The small cabin works in your favour.
At under 3.8 metres long and only 1,666 mm wide, the Mirage is one of the easiest cars to park anywhere in the city. Marina basement bays, tight mall ramps, multi-storey corners that make bigger cars sweat, none of it is a problem. U-turns are quick and the turning circle is small. Ground clearance of around 160 mm is normal for the class, so it clears standard speed bumps without scraping, though you'll still slow for the steep ones. If your week involves a lot of packed car parks and narrow streets, this is the car that makes that part painless.
The boot holds roughly 484 litres with the rear seats up, which is generous for such a small car. One large suitcase plus a couple of soft bags fits comfortably, enough for two people on a week's stay. Need to carry more and you can drop the rear seats and free up a lot of space, but then you've lost your back seats. For a solo traveller or a couple it's plenty. For four adults arriving at DXB with a full set of hard cases, it isn't, and you'd be happier in a sedan with a proper boot.
Salik tolls run on your account during the rental, so each gantry you pass is on you, and any RTA fines pass to the renter too. Seat belts are mandatory in every seat. We take payment by card, cash, bank transfer, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and a few other methods, and deliver to your door, usually within a couple of hours.
Rent the Mirage if you're one or two people who mostly drive in the city and want the lowest fuel and rental cost you can get. For supermarket runs, the daily commute, and easy parking, it does the job and barely touches the fuel gauge. It's a sensible, no-fuss runabout.
Skip it if you regularly carry four adults, do long daily stretches on the highway at 120, or land with a pile of luggage. The engine is slow, the cabin is basic, and high-speed overtaking is a chore. For any of those, step up to a roomier hatch or a small sedan. But for the cheap, frugal city driving it's built for, the Mirage is hard to beat on price.
