The engine is a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder, 108 hp and 140 Nm sent to the front wheels through a CVT. Nothing about that reads exciting on paper, and it isn't meant to. It's the same low-drama setup you want in a car you're handing to someone who just wants to get to work and back without thinking about it. Around town, pulling away from a red light or edging out of a car park barrier, the CVT keeps revs level and doesn't hunt for a gear that isn't there. Take it onto Sheikh Zayed Road and the character shifts a little. It settles into 120 km/h without strain, but overtaking a truck with four people and their bags aboard takes a run up rather than a confident stab of the pedal. Plan the gap instead of forcing it.

How much space you really get

Five seats and a 293-litre boot describe a car built for people rather than cargo. Two adults up front get proper room for a full day of errands. The back seat holds two more for a short hop across town, gets tight for three, and suits kids best on anything longer than a quick run. The boot fits one large case and a soft bag without complaint; look for room beyond that and you won't find it, so a second hard case usually ends up on someone's lap. At 4,113 mm long and 1,797 mm wide, it's short enough to drop into a resident's covered bay or a mall's lower deck in one move, no reversing back and forth. Ground clearance sits at 132 mm, low enough that a steep basement ramp or a sharp speed bump wants a slow, deliberate approach rather than the speed you'd carry in something taller.

Fuel, tolls and keeping the cabin cool

MG quotes combined economy of around 6.6 litres per 100 km. Add Dubai's stop and go traffic and the air conditioning working against the heat, and real-world use sits a bit above that figure, though the 45-litre tank still gets you roughly 500 km of city driving before a fill-up matters. The rental terms are generous for a car at this price: 250 km included every day, not pooled across the whole booking, with anything extra billed at AED 0.5 per kilometre. A week of school runs and city errands rarely gets close to that limit in a single day. You'll need to be 25 or older to collect the keys. Salik tolls and any RTA fine picked up during the rental land on the renter, same as with every car we hand over.

Left parked through a Dubai afternoon, the cabin climbs into the high 40s like anything else without shade. The upside of a small cabin is that the front vents don't have much air to fight, so the worst of the heat clears within a few minutes of pulling away rather than a long, sweaty crawl. The engine and CVT won't excite anyone, and that's the point: nothing about this car demands your attention on a normal week of city driving.

Size up if you're four adults with real luggage, since the back seat and the 293-litre boot both run out of room at the same point. Size up too if your days involve long, regular runs rather than city hops, since the calm highway manners of this engine turn into a real limit once you're overtaking repeatedly with a full car.
