The MG3 2024 is the smallest car we put on the road in Dubai, and that is the whole case for booking it if parking is your daily headache. At just over four metres long, it drops into a Marina tower bay or a packed mall multi storey without the three point shuffle a normal hatchback needs. What's under the bonnet, and how it drives

The MG3 runs a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol making 108 hp and 140 Nm, sent to the front wheels through a CVT automatic. Nothing about that spec sheet is exciting, and it isn't meant to be. Around town at 60 to 80 km/h, with light throttle and the CVT doing its usual smooth, slightly rubbery thing, the engine never feels stretched. Roundabouts, stop start traffic near the souks, a slow crawl through a car park, this is the car's natural habitat.

Put it on Sheikh Zayed Road and merge into fast traffic and you'll notice the ceiling. It gets to 120 km/h and holds it, but a loaded overtake with four people aboard takes more room than you'd like, and the CVT drones a bit under hard throttle. Treat highway stretches as something the car tolerates rather than enjoys, and plan overtakes early rather than stabbing the pedal at the last second.

Boot, back seat and the daily load

The tight footprint that makes parking easy has a cost, and it shows up in the boot first. At 293 litres, it's the smallest cargo hold in our economy lineup. One large suitcase and a laptop bag fit without a fight; add a second case and you're pushing soft bags on top of it or leaving one behind. A single traveller or a couple flying into DXB with one bag each will be fine. Two couples with a week of luggage between them will not, and rearranging the cases won't change that math.

The back seat is more usable than the boot suggests. Two adults sit fine for a cross town trip, and the bench takes a third for a short mall run, though anyone over average height will feel the seatback close in on a longer drive. Four adults with bags for a full day out is where the car runs out of room, both in the boot and in rear legroom.

At 132 mm of ground clearance, the MG3 wants gentle treatment on the steep ramps some of the older Marina towers still have, and on a sharp speed bump taken too fast. Handled at a normal pace, neither is a problem, and the short body means tight residential U-turns and multi storey bays that would make a bigger hatchback back up twice are a non issue here.

Running cost, heat and the cabin

MG quotes combined economy of around 6.6 L/100km. Treat that as the showroom figure. In real Dubai driving, with the AC working against the heat and traffic that rarely flows freely, expect closer to 8. The 45-litre tank still gets you around 500 km between fills in normal city use, so a typical week of commuting and errands means one stop at the pump, occasionally two.

The mileage allowance is 250 km a day, with anything past that billed at AED 0.5 per extra kilometre. That covers ordinary city use with room to spare, though a day trip out to Al Ain or Hatta will eat into it faster than local driving does. Salik tolls are on you at every gate you pass, and any RTA fine issued during the rental is yours to settle. The minimum age on this car is 25, above the 21 you'll see on some other economy hatchbacks in the fleet, so check you clear that bar before booking.

A parked cabin in a Dubai summer climbs into the high 40s fast, and the MG3's small interior actually works for it here. There's less air for the front vents to fight, so climb back in after a midday errand and the worst of the heat clears within a few minutes on the move rather than a long crawl. It's a basic air conditioning setup with no rear vents, not a luxury system, and at this size and rate that's the expected trade. Parking in shade when you can makes the first stretch of any drive easier.

Who should rent it, and who should size up

Book the MG3 2024 if your week in Dubai is short trips, tight parking and a light bag, and the smallest footprint on the road matters more to you than boot space or highway punch. A solo commuter, a couple doing mall runs and a single airport bag each, or anyone who has struggled to fit a bigger car into a Marina basement bay will feel the benefit every time they park.

Size up if you're two couples or a family of four with real luggage. The 293-litre boot and the tight rear seat won't carry a week's worth of cases, and something like an MG5 sedan or a compact SUV earns its higher rate there. The same goes if your plans involve serious Sheikh Zayed Road mileage or a run out to Hatta, where the modest 108 hp means every overtake needs more space than it should. For city errands and easy parking on a budget, though, nothing in the fleet tucks away as easily as this one does.
