Rent MG 3 2024 in Dubai

Two people land at DXB on a Friday night, check into a hotel apartment for a week, and want keys in hand by Saturday morning for beach mornings, mall afternoons and one long drive out of town. That week is what the MG MG3 2024 gets booked for more than anything else, and we rent it in Dubai with a no-deposit option and debit cards or cash taken at handover. It is a five seat hatchback that costs very little to run and parks anywhere. The question worth settling before you book is whether your version of that week fits in a 293 litre boot, or whether you should be renting something larger.

What fits in the boot, and who fits behind you

The boot holds 293 litres with the rear bench up. Two large hard cases will not both go in, so plan around one big case, a cabin bag and a couple of soft holdalls. That covers a week for two people who packed sensibly. If you both travelled heavy, the second case sits on the back seat, which nobody minds when there are only two of you in the car. Fold the bench down and the space turns genuinely useful, which matters more for a furniture run or a Carrefour restock than for airport duty.

Five seats is the official count and four adults is the realistic one. Behind a tall driver, the rear passenger loses knee room and will say so after twenty minutes. Two kids in the back changes the maths completely, and the car handles that setup all week without complaint. Child seats are required here for under-fours, and belts are mandatory in every seat, so add the seat to the booking rather than sorting it out on arrival.

The back seat in August

The cabin is small, which works in your favour once the sun has been on it all afternoon. There is less air to cool than in a saloon, so the MG3 gets there faster. It still takes two or three minutes with the fan up and a window cracked before the vents blow properly cold, and until then the wheel and the belt buckles are too hot to hold.

Front vent output is strong. There are no rear vents on this car, so anyone in the back gets cooled by whatever reaches them between the front seats. Kids on a short hop will not notice. Two adults in the back in July will. Park in shade wherever you can find it, and buy the five dirham windscreen shade on day one.

What the week actually costs to run

The combined rating is 6.6 litres per 100 km, and a 45 litre tank on that number gives roughly 680 km. Nobody achieves the combined number in a Dubai summer. Between the traffic and an air conditioning compressor that barely switches off, the real-world figure sits closer to eight litres per 100 km, which brings a tank down to something like 550 km. For the week described above, that is one fill, or two if the long drive is Abu Dhabi and back.

Mileage is worth checking against your plans. We include 300 km a day, and anything beyond it is 50 fils a kilometre. A week of city driving with one day trip stays comfortably inside that. Salik is separate and it catches visitors out, because the tolls are charged per gate and a day that leans on the main highway can pass through several. Those tolls come to you, as does any RTA fine picked up during the rental. We also hand this car over from age 18, which most desks in the city will not do before 21.

On the road and in the car park

At 4,113 mm long and 1,797 mm wide, the MG3 slots into the narrow bays in older mall car parks without you having to climb out sideways. U-turns take one lock rather than a three-point negotiation, and reversing into a gap on a busy Saturday is a non-event. That ease is most of the reason this car works for a week of short hops.

Ground clearance is 132 mm, which is genuinely low. Take the steep basement ramps in the older towers slowly and square on, and treat the sharper community speed bumps with respect rather than momentum. Front-wheel drive and that clearance also settle a question people ask every winter: no soft sand, no desert tracks, and no rough approach roads around Hatta.

The highway is where you meet the limits. The car cruises at 120 quite happily, and the engine is content there. Ask it for a quick lane change into a gap that is closing and you have to commit early, because 109 PS through a CVT builds speed steadily rather than sharply. The revs also rise and sit high under load, so a long stint at speed is noisier in here than it would be in a saloon.

Who should book it, and who should not

Book the MG3 if your week looks like the one at the top of this page. Two people, city-based, moderate luggage, a lot of short journeys and maybe one longer run. On that brief it is one of the cheapest sensible automatics we rent, and the money you do not spend on fuel or on a deposit funds a better week.

Skip it if there are four adults with four cases, or if a third row or a big boot is doing real work in your plans. Move up to a sedan or a compact crossover and stop trying to make the numbers fit. Skip it too if most of your kilometres are motorway, because a car tuned for city speeds is the wrong tool for a daily Abu Dhabi commute. Rent it for the week it was built for and it is very hard to beat.
