Some cars in our fleet need you to hunt for a parking space. The Kia Picanto 2023 does the opposite: at under 3.6 metres long, it slides into gaps most drivers would drive straight past. It is the smallest footprint in our fleet, this one in Grey, and we get it to your door within one to two hours of booking. This isn't a car for hauling four adults and a week of luggage across the city. It's for renters who would rather stop thinking about where to park and start thinking about how little the week is going to cost them. That's the argument this page settles.

A small engine and a tighter turning circle

The 1.2-litre engine makes a modest 84 hp and 122 Nm, and Kia pairs it with a 4-speed automatic rather than the CVT you will find on some newer city cars. Step off from a standstill and there's a small beat before the gearbox catches up, noticeable if you are used to a modern CVT's smoothness, but once you are rolling at 40 to 60 km/h through town it shifts cleanly enough that nobody in the passenger seat will comment on it. This is not an engine built to impress. It's built to be cheap to run and easy to place.

That second part is where the Picanto separates itself from the rest of our lot. At 3,595 mm long and 1,595 mm wide, on a 2,400 mm wheelbase, it turns tighter and slots into smaller gaps than almost anything else we rent. A basement level with two spots left, a narrow residential street with cars parked on both sides, a supermarket lot on a busy evening: this is the car that doesn't make you circle twice. Push it onto Sheikh Zayed Road and it settles into 120 km/h without fuss, though overtaking a truck in the fast lane takes planning rather than a confident stab of the pedal. Treat it as a city and short-hop highway car, not a long cross-emirate cruiser, and it won't disappoint you.

What actually fits in the boot and back seat

Be honest with yourself about what you're packing before you book this car. The 255-litre boot swallows one cabin bag and a laptop case without complaint, but a second full-size suitcase forces someone to hold it on their lap. Two people flying in with a week of luggage each should look at a bigger hatch or a compact sedan instead. Fold the rear seats down and you get 1,010 litres, useful for a big grocery run or a flat-pack delivery, not something worth planning a trip around.

The back seat is built for occasional riders, not for three people commuting together every day. A child seat fits without drama, and a colleague riding along to a meeting across town won't complain, but two adults back there on a longer drive will start shifting around after twenty minutes. Up front is where the Picanto earns its keep, with enough room for a tall driver and a passenger to sit comfortably for the whole rental.

Fuel, Salik and how fast the cabin cools

Kia quotes combined economy around 16.4 km per litre, which puts the 35-litre tank's paper range at roughly 570 km. Knock a few km/l off that once the AC is fighting a Dubai afternoon and you're crawling through stop-start traffic, and a realistic city figure sits closer to 11 or 12 km/l. Even there, fuel ends up one of the smallest costs of the week, and you'll rarely need more than one fill for a normal run of errands.

A small cabin turns out to be an advantage once summer hits. There's less air in here for the compressor to chill than in a mid-size sedan or an SUV, so the front vents pull a baked interior down to something bearable within a couple of minutes of climbing back in. Don't expect rear vents or a second climate zone: it's single-zone, manual air conditioning, basic but genuinely effective for a footprint this small.

Our policy on this car is 250 km a day, then AED 0.5 for every kilometre past that, generous enough for daily errands and the odd airport run without the math getting in the way. Who this Picanto suits, and who needs more room

Rent the Kia Picanto 2023 if you're a solo renter or a couple who spends most of the week in the city, cares more about squeezing into a tight bay than about back-seat space, and wants the lowest running cost on our lot. If parking has been the annoying part of every rental you've had in Dubai, this car removes that problem almost entirely.

Size up if you regularly carry three or four people, if you and a travel companion are both landing with full suitcases, or if your bookings mean long daily stretches on the highway rather than city errands. A compact sedan or a slightly bigger hatch gets you more boot and back-seat room for similar money once space matters more than footprint.
