You can rent the Kia Picanto 2023 in Dubai from age 18, with no deposit if you'd rather not lock up a chunk of cash, and we'll deliver it to you in 1 to 2 hours. Most desks in this city won't hand a car to anyone under 21, so for a younger resident or visitor this is one of the few automatics actually within reach. It's an economy hatchback built for one job: cheap, easy city driving. Our argument across this page is simple. If you're a younger driver or anyone on a tight budget who mostly stays inside Dubai, this is the car that gets you mobile for the least money. The catch is space, and we'll be straight with you about where it runs short.
The two things that usually stop a young or first-time renter are the age limit and the deposit. We've removed both here. You can book the Picanto from 18, and instead of a held deposit there's a small fee at checkout, so your card isn't tied up for the length of the rental. Payment is flexible too: card, debit, cash, bank transfer, Apple Pay, Google Pay, even crypto. For a student or a new arrival who hasn't built up a deposit buffer yet, that combination matters more than any spec on the sheet.
The 35-litre tank is small, but the 1.2-litre four-cylinder barely touches it. Figure on roughly 16 km per litre in steady use, which works out to most of a week of normal city driving on one fill. Push it harder, idling in Sheikh Zayed Road traffic with the AC flat out, and you'll dip toward a top-up sooner, but the bill stays low either way. The 250 km a day included with the rental is far more than a typical Dubai week of commuting and errands eats through, and there's no charge if you go over, so distance never becomes the thing you watch.

This generation pairs the 84 hp engine with a four-speed automatic driving the front wheels. Around town that's all you need. It pulls away cleanly at the lights and the auto box handles the constant stop-start without you ever thinking about it. On the highway it'll hold 120 fine, but the four-speed has fewer ratios to play with than newer boxes, so overtaking from 100 upward takes a run-up and the engine gets loud. Treat it as a city car that copes with a motorway stint when it has to, not a cruiser, and it does everything you'd ask of it.
The boot is 255 litres with the seats up, which is honest small-car territory: one large case plus a soft bag, or a couple of cabin cases and the weekly shop. Folding the rear seats opens it to 1010 litres for a one-off bigger load, but then the back row is gone. Some listings stretch that folded figure into talk of three large suitcases. With the seats up and people in the back, plan for one big case, not three.
Five belts doesn't mean five comfortable adults. Two travel well up front, and the rear suits kids or two adults on a short hop. For a DXB or DWC pickup with four adults and full luggage, this is the wrong car, and we'd point you at a small sedan. For a solo driver or a couple, the size is the whole appeal.
Under 3.6 metres long, the Picanto is about as easy to place as anything on Dubai roads. It drops into the tight bays in older multi-storey car parks, U-turns take one swing, and the steep spiral ramps in Marina towers are no trouble. The 141 mm of clearance sits low, so ease over the sharper speed bumps and raised mall entrances rather than charging them.
On heat, a small cabin actually helps. Parked in 45-degree sun the Picanto bakes like anything else, but there's less air to chill once you're moving, so the front vents bring it down quickly. There are no rear vents, so back-seat passengers wait a little longer for the cold to reach them on the worst afternoons. For the two up front, it's comfortable within a minute or two.
Salik tolls are billed to you as you pass the gantries, and any RTA fines during the rental are yours as well, so keep an eye on the speed cameras. Seat belts are required in every seat, and children under four need a child seat by law, which we'll fit on request. Standard Dubai rules, but worth knowing before you set off.
Rent the Picanto 2023 if you're a younger driver shut out by the usual 21 limit, or anyone who wants the cheapest easy automatic for a week of city driving without a deposit hanging over the card. For commuting, errands, parking anywhere and the odd light airport run with one or two people, it's hard to beat on cost and simplicity.
Size up if you're regularly carrying four adults, hauling full luggage, or spending most of your week on fast motorway runs between emirates. A small sedan adds the boot and the highway composure for a modest step up. For the job this little Kia is built for, paying for anything larger is money you don't need to spend.
