Most weeks, the cheapest sensible automatic we hand over for someone doing nothing but city driving is this one. The Kia Picanto 2020 rents in Dubai as a small four-speed auto that asks very little of you: it parks anywhere, sips fuel, and slots into a budget that newer Picanto years can't match. Every rental includes 250 km a day, which is more road than a typical resident covers between Marina, the office, and the supermarket. So the real question this page answers isn't whether the car is cheap. It's whether a city car this small is enough for your week, or whether you should size up.
This is a one or two person car. We rent it most to residents who commute short hops and tourists who want something painless to park near the hotel. The 1.25-litre petrol makes 84 hp, which is plenty for getting off the line at a light and keeping pace through town. Two adults up front, light bags in the back, errands all week: that's where it's happy and where the low rate makes sense.
It struggles when you ask more of it. Load four adults and the four-speed automatic feels the weight, especially pulling onto a fast slip road. If your week involves regular highway runs with passengers or a boot full of luggage, this isn't the car. We'll point you at a Kia Rio or a small crossover instead, and you'll thank us on the first airport run.

The table is the reference. What it means for your week is below.
At under 3.6 metres long and just over 1.5 wide, the Picanto fits bays other cars circle past. Multi-storey decks in older buildings and the tight stacked parking near the Marina stop being a problem. You can U-turn in one go on roads where a sedan needs a three-point shuffle, and reversing into a gap between two SUVs takes no nerve at all. For anyone who finds Dubai parking the most stressful part of driving here, that alone earns the rental.
The flip side of small is a small boot. The 255 litres behind the seats takes one large suitcase and a soft bag, or a decent grocery run, not both at once. Fold the rear seats and you free up to 1010 litres, which covers a flat-pack pickup or one person moving a few boxes. For a couple flying in with two big cases each, the maths doesn't work. Check your luggage against that 255-litre figure before you book.
A small cabin is the one place the Picanto's size works in summer. When the car has baked in a 45-degree car park, the smaller volume of air means the AC pulls the temperature down faster than it would in a big SUV. Front vents do the job within a few minutes of pulling away. The honest limit: there are no rear vents, so a passenger in the back waits longer to feel it, and you'll want the fan high for the first stretch. Park in shade when you can and that opening minute is far more bearable.
This is where the older-year Picanto quietly wins. The official combined figure is 4.8 L/100km. Real Dubai driving, stop-start traffic and full AC, lands closer to 6 to 7, but that's still gentle on a wallet. With the 35-litre tank you'll go roughly a week of normal city use between fills, and topping up costs little. If running cost is the thing deciding your rental, few automatics here beat it.
Around town and on Sheikh Zayed Road at a steady cruise, the Picanto holds its own. It'll sit at the limit comfortably enough. Past 100 km/h it asks for more than it has. Overtaking on the E11 needs planning, the engine gets vocal, and the four-speed auto hunts a little on inclines. It does the speed, it just doesn't do it with ease. For a daily commute that's mostly arterial roads and city streets, that's a non-issue. For someone who lives on the highway between emirates, it's the wrong tool.
A couple of Dubai rules apply to any rental: Salik tolls run on your account, and any RTA fines pass to you, so watch the speed cameras on the long straights. Seat belts are mandatory in every seat.
Rent the Picanto 2020 if you're one or two people driving mostly inside the city and you want the lowest older-year automatic rate we offer. For parking ease, fuel cost and a no-fuss week of errands, it's the smart pick and the case for it is straightforward. If you're carrying four adults, doing real highway distance, or arriving with a stack of luggage, step up to a Rio or a compact crossover. Match the car to the week, and this little Kia is hard to argue with.
