The car's real talent shows up at the end of a drive rather than the middle of one. A short wheelbase and a body barely over 3.6 metres long mean a three-point turn in a tight residential lane, or backing into the last open bay under a Deira mall, takes one clean pass instead of several.

Take it out onto Sheikh Zayed Road and the character shifts. Cruising at 120 km/h is no problem, but building up to that speed takes longer than it would in a bigger-engined car, and overtaking in the fast lane wants a gap spotted well ahead rather than a last-second decision. For city routes with the odd highway stretch to the airport or a neighbouring emirate, that is a fair trade. Plan on long open-highway days or a Hatta run and the small engine will start to feel thin.

Boot, back seat and the daily use

Pack for this car with its size in mind. The 255-litre boot swallows one mid-size suitcase and a duffel bag without argument, but a second full case has nowhere honest to go, so two people flying in with a week's luggage each will be happier in something roomier. Drop the rear bench and that figure climbs to 1,010 litres, useful for a big supermarket run or moving a couple of boxes, though you give up the back seat to get there.

Back there, the seat suits a child seat or a colleague riding a short distance across town better than two adults on a daily commute, and legroom runs out well before patience does. Up front is where the Morning earns its space, with enough room for a tall driver and passenger to spend a full week in it without complaint. That compact shape, 3,595 mm long and 1,595 mm wide, is also why it rarely struggles for a spot. It fits into a bay that would make a mid-size sedan hunt for a second option, and roughly 150 mm of ground clearance shrugs off an ordinary speed bump, though a steep ramp into an underground level still deserves a slow approach.

Running cost, heat and the cabin

Run the AC hard through a Dubai afternoon and add the stop-start of city traffic, and the real-world number drops to somewhere around 11 to 12 km/l, still enough that the 35-litre tank rarely needs topping up more than once in a normal week of errands.

A light exterior reflects more heat than a dark one, and paired with the smallest cabin on the fleet, that means less trapped air for the AC to fight when you climb back in after a few hours parked in the sun. Expect the front vents to bring the cabin to a comfortable temperature within a couple of minutes. There is no rear air vent and no second climate zone, just a single manually controlled system, basic but genuinely up to the job for a cabin this size.
