We hand over the Infiniti QX80 2024 across Dubai with the no-deposit option on the table, so a full-size luxury SUV doesn't have to mean a four-figure hold on your card before you've turned a wheel. This is the last of the old guard: a 5.6-litre V8, body-on-frame, three real rows and a quiet cabin, the generation right before Infiniti swapped the big naturally aspirated engine for a twin-turbo V6. If you want a plush family hauler or an airport arrival car with presence, and you'd rather the value rate than the newest badge, this is the one to read about. The catch is the thirst, and we'll be straight about it.
The 2024 car is the final full year of the big V8 QX80 before the 2025 redesign. That matters for two reasons. First, the platform is mature, which means there are no first-year quirks to discover on your holiday. Second, it tends to rent for less than the newer shape while giving you the thing people actually book a QX80 for: a hushed, heavy, planted ride and a cabin you can stretch out in.
The 5.6-litre V8 makes 400 horsepower through a seven-speed automatic, rear-wheel drive. It moves a 2.6-tonne SUV from rest to 100 in around six and a half seconds, which sounds academic until you're merging onto Sheikh Zayed Road with seven people aboard and it just goes. On the E11 at a cruise it's relaxed and dead quiet, the kind of car where the back row can hold a conversation at 120.
| Spec | Infiniti QX80 2024 |
|---|---|
| Engine | 5.6L V8 petrol |
| Power | 400 hp |
| Transmission | 7-speed automatic |
| Drivetrain | Rear-wheel drive |
| Seats | 8 |
| Fuel economy | ~14.7 L/100km combined |
| Fuel tank | ~98 litres |
| Range | ~650 km combined, less in city |
| Dimensions (L×W×H) | 5340 × 2030 × 1925 mm |
| Ground clearance | 235 mm |
| Boot | 470 L behind third row, ~2690 L rear seats folded |
| Colour | Grey |
Eight seats, and unlike a lot of nominal seven and eight seaters, the QX80's third row is usable by adults for a DXB run, not just kids. Two grown-ups will sit back there in comfort for an hour. Fold that row and you get a flat, vast load floor; leave it up with all eight aboard and the boot behind it still swallows 470 litres, which is roughly two large cases or a stack of soft bags and a buggy.
The honest version: with every seat occupied and a week of luggage, you'll be packing thoughtfully, because eight bodies eat into the space behind the third row. For four or five people it's effortless, multiple big cases plus golf clubs and shopping. For a full eight plus full luggage, plan on a roof effort or fewer hard cases.
No way around it: this engine likes petrol. Reckon on roughly 14 to 15 litres per 100km combined, and city driving with the AC working hard in summer pushes that higher. The tank is large at around 98 litres, so you're not stopping constantly, but a tank of mixed Dubai driving realistically gets you somewhere in the 500 to 600km region rather than the brochure best case. Petrol here is cheap by global standards, which softens the blow, but if your week is mostly short city hops the running cost is the single biggest reason to consider a smaller SUV instead. Book the V8 because you want the V8, not because you expect economy.
The big cabin is the QX80's strong suit when it's 45 outside. Tri-zone climate with vents feeding all three rows means the back doesn't bake while the front stays cool, which is the difference between a comfortable airport pickup and a miserable one. It's a large volume to cool, so after a few hours parked in the sun you'll want a couple of minutes with the doors open and the fans on full before everyone climbs in, but once it's down it holds temperature well and the rear passengers actually get airflow. Leather and a dark cabin get hot to the touch when parked uncovered, so shade it where you can.
This is a 5.3-metre, two-metre-wide vehicle, and you feel it. Marina multi-storey bays and older mall car parks are tight, U-turns need a beat of planning, and you'll favour the end-of-row spaces. The upside is the high seating position and the cameras, which make placing it easier than the footprint suggests. Ground clearance of 235mm clears speed bumps and mall ramps without scraping and handles a graded desert track or a beach access road fine. It is not a dune machine, though; rear-wheel drive and 2.6 tonnes mean serious soft sand is a job for a proper 4x4, not this.
A few Dubai rules worth a line: Salik tolls run on the car's tag and come back to the renter, and any RTA fines during your rental are yours too. Seatbelts are required in all eight seats, and children under four need a child seat, easy to forget in a vehicle this big where the back feels like a lounge.
Rent the QX80 2024 if you're moving a real group or family, want a quiet, commanding highway car, and like the idea of the last big V8 QX80 at a value rate without the deposit headache. For arrivals, weddings and a week of family logistics, it's hard to beat on presence and space.
Skip it if your trip is mostly solo or two-up city errands, where the fuel bill and the parking faff aren't worth it. A QX50 or a mid-size luxury SUV will suit you better and cost less to feed. And if you specifically want the newest technology and the latest cabin, you're looking at the wrong year; this is the value play, the proven V8, not the headline act. For most big-group Dubai weeks, that trade is exactly the right one.
