There's a small list of cars that turn a Dubai airport pickup into an arrival, and the Infiniti QX80 2022 is on it. We hand it over across the city within one to two hours, with 250 km a day included, and it lands as a full-size luxury SUV: a 5.6-litre V8, a tall body-on-frame chassis, and eight seats wrapped in a quiet, plush cabin. This page is about who that suits. If you want big-SUV presence, room for a group with their luggage, and a relaxed V8 cruise for the week, the QX80 delivers it. If you're mostly threading city traffic and tight basements solo, it's far more car than the job needs, and we'll say so.
The QX80 is old-school big in the best sense. It rides on a proper ladder frame rather than a car-style platform, which is why it feels so planted at speed and so unbothered by rough ground, and the 5.6 V8 gives it an effortless, deep-chested pull you don't get from a turbo six. The cabin is the other half of the pitch: wide, hushed, and trimmed to a standard that makes a long E11 run or a Hatta day feel like first class. You're paying a premium rate, and the car spends it on space, silence and that unmistakable full-size stance.

Eight seats is the headline, and the second row is where most people actually sit in comfort, with a third row that takes adults for an airport leg rather than only kids. The cargo story is the honest part. Behind all three rows you get enough for the soft bags of a day out, around 470 litres, but a group of eight with full suitcases won't fit in one go with every seat up. Drop the third row and the space opens into something genuinely cavernous, near 2700 litres, which swallows a holiday's luggage with room for five still seated. The rule mirrors any big three-row SUV: all the seats, or all the cases, rarely both at once.
A 400 hp V8 moving close to three tonnes is never going to sip fuel, and you should rent it knowing that. On the highway it settles into the mid-teens of litres per 100km, and Dubai's stop-start traffic with the AC under constant load pushes city consumption higher still. The saving grace is the tank: at roughly 98 litres it gives a real touring range near 600 km, so even a thirsty week rarely means more than a couple of fills. Fuel is cheap here, which softens the blow, but if running cost is anywhere near the top of your list, this is the wrong car. You're buying the V8's smoothness and pace, and it asks to be fed.
This is where honesty earns its keep. At 5.34 metres long and over two metres wide, the QX80 is a lot of vehicle to place. Marina towers, older mall basements and tight downtown lots were not built with it in mind, and you'll use the cameras and sensors every single time rather than eyeballing a bay. The flip side is the open road and the airport, where the size becomes an asset: wide bays at DXB and DWC are no trouble, the high seat gives a commanding view over traffic, and the long, planted chassis makes Sheikh Zayed Road a calm cruise. The 230 mm or so of clearance clears speed bumps and mall ramps easily, and the body-on-frame build means graded desert tracks and the run up to Hatta are well within its comfort zone. Soft dune driving is still a job for a dedicated 4x4 with the right tyres and pressures, so don't mistake presence for a dune licence.
A cabin this large bakes hard in the open at 45 degrees, but the QX80 has the climate hardware to deal with it: a strong front system plus vents and controls reaching the rear rows, so the back doesn't stay an oven while the front cools. Expect the front to feel tolerable within a few minutes and the whole cabin to settle a while after, quicker if you park in shade or a basement. A few Dubai basics: Salik tolls and any RTA fines during the rental pass to you, seat belts are required in every seat, and a child seat is mandatory for under-fours, which we can fit on request.
Rent the QX80 2022 if you want full-size luxury presence, room for a group, and a relaxed V8 cruise for highway runs, airport collections and the drive out to Hatta. For a family or a group that values comfort and space over running cost, it's a genuinely special way to spend a week.
Skip it if your driving is mostly solo city errands in tight parking, where the size is a daily chore and the fuel bill is money spent on space you're not using. A two-row luxury SUV is easier and cheaper for that. And if real soft-sand dune work is the plan, take a proper off-road 4x4 instead. The QX80's job is presence, space and comfort, and at that it's hard to match.
