GMC Yukon 2023 - start from 660 AED / day

The GMC Yukon 2023 is the middle child of General Motors' full-size SUV family, and that is exactly why people rent it in Dubai. It shares its engine, platform and cavernous cabin with the Chevrolet Tahoe below it and the Cadillac Escalade above, but it asks less for the badge than the Cadillac and gives you a plusher cabin than the Chevy. We can hand one over at your hotel, villa or terminal, usually within one to two hours of booking. What this page settles is whether a seven-seat, five-metre American SUV suits your week here, or whether you are paying to park and fuel space you will never fill.

What a Yukon actually is

A Yukon is a full-size, body-on-frame SUV built on GM's big-truck platform, the same bones as the Tahoe and Suburban. In the Gulf it runs a 5.3-litre V8 making around 355 hp through a ten-speed automatic, with four-wheel drive. That is enough to move two-and-a-half tonnes without any fuss, though it is a relaxed highway cruiser, not a sports SUV. This fifth-generation Yukon also switched to an independent rear suspension, and you feel it. The ride is settled and grown-up in a way the older live-axle cars never managed.

One thing to get straight before you book. This is the standard-length Yukon, not the longer Yukon XL. Both seat the same number of people, but the XL adds a much bigger boot behind the third row. If you need maximum luggage with all seven aboard, that is the one to ask for. For most trips the standard car is the right size.

Against a Nissan Patrol or a Land Cruiser, the Yukon trades hardcore desert hardware for a roomier, more road-biased cabin. It has four-wheel drive and will cope with a graded track or a firm beach road, but it is built to cruise Sheikh Zayed Road in comfort rather than chase dunes. If the sand is the point, rent a Patrol instead.

The third row is the reason to size up

This is where the Yukon earns its length. It seats seven with two captain's chairs in the middle, or eight if the middle row is a bench, and the back row is the honest surprise. Most three-row SUVs give you a rear bench only a child tolerates past twenty minutes. The Yukon's independent rear suspension frees up real foot room back there, so adults ride in the third row on a proper run across town without folding themselves in. The middle chairs slide and tip to make climbing in easy.

Luggage is the part to plan around. Behind the third row you get about 722 litres, which is genuinely large for the class and swallows a full airport run better than almost anything short of the XL. Fold the back row and it opens to roughly 2,050 litres, and drop the middle too and you are near 3,480. The honest limit is the one every three-row SUV hits. Seven passengers and seven hard cases at once will still have you tucking soft bags into footwells. If that is your regular load, the Yukon XL is built for exactly it. This row is the standard length, which is the right call for most trips.

Highway cruiser, city handful

On Sheikh Zayed Road the Yukon is in its element. The V8 makes light work of merging and overtaking, it stays quiet at 120, and the long wheelbase keeps it planted, so you never feel like you are steering something the size of a small van. It is an easy car to cover distance in.

The bill lands at the pump. The official combined figure is about 13.8 litres per 100 km, and real Dubai driving runs higher, closer to 16 or 17 in stop-start city traffic with the AC working hard. The 91-litre tank still gives decent range between fills, but budget for the fuel over a week, and remember that Salik tolls and any RTA fines during your rental are yours to settle.

Size is the daily trade-off. At over 5.3 metres long and just past two metres wide, tight multi-storey bays and Marina tower ramps ask for patience and the parking cameras. The roughly 203 mm of clearance means speed bumps and steep mall ramps do not trouble it. Heat is the question every renter asks, and a cabin this big needs a strong system to cope with a July afternoon. It has one. The climate control pulls the temperature down steadily after hours in an open lot, and rear passengers get their own vents, so the third row gets real cold air rather than whatever drifts back from the front.

Who should rent it, and who is overbuying

Rent the GMC Yukon 2023 if you genuinely need three usable rows, or if you want the presence of a big American SUV without paying Escalade money for it. For a large family, a group travelling with luggage, or a week of airport runs and long highway hauls, little else in this bracket does the job with a third row this comfortable. If you need maximum luggage with every seat full, step up to the XL. If the badge does not matter to you, a Chevrolet Tahoe covers most of the same ground for less. If the desert is the real plan, a Patrol is the better tool.

Skip it if it is one or two of you running city errands. You will spend the week wrestling a five-metre SUV into bays and feeding a V8 for space you never touch, when a mid-size crossover does that job for far less. A deposit may apply on a car this size, so it is not the no-deposit option. Your allowance is 250 km a day, then AED 0.5 for each extra kilometre, and you will need to be 21 to take the keys.
