U-turns happen in one go instead of a three-point shuffle. Reversing into a gap on a busy street is a non-event because you can see all four corners from the driver's seat.

The flip side is the engine. With 69 hp and a 12.9-second run to 100, the 500 is relaxed rather than quick. Around the city that's fine, since you're rarely flat out anyway. The automatic gearbox takes the strain out of crawling traffic, which matters more here than outright pace.

Heat and the AC in a small cabin

Dubai summers push into the high 40s, and a car this size has one real advantage when the heat hits. There's very little cabin to cool, so once the AC catches, the small space drops to comfortable faster than a big SUV would. The early minutes after a car has baked in a car park are still rough, as they are in anything. Crack the windows for the first few seconds, then let the front vents do the work. There are no rear vents, but in a cabin this small the air reaches the back seats anyway. Expect strong, quick cooling rather than gentle climate luxury.

Luggage, passengers, and where it runs out of room

Here's the honest part. The boot is 185 litres, which takes one medium case and a backpack, or a decent grocery run, and not much more. Two people travelling light are comfortable. The back seats exist and work for short hops with kids or one extra adult, but four grown adults plus airport bags is a squeeze nobody enjoys. If that's your trip, size up to a Picanto, a Spark, or a proper supermini hatch with a real boot.

A few Dubai rules to keep in mind. Salik tolls run on your account as the renter, and any RTA fines during the rental pass to you as well. Seat belts are mandatory in every seat, front and back, and children under four need a child seat.

Who should rent it, and who shouldn't
