Chevrolet Traverse 2021 - start from 269 AED / day

The test that decides a big-family rental is simple: can you collect everyone and every bag from the airport in one car. The Chevrolet Traverse 2021 passes it, and we rent it across Dubai with a no-deposit option so a large SUV doesn't tie up a heavy hold on your card for the week. It's a seven-seat, three-row SUV with a 3.6-litre V6 making 310 hp and front-wheel drive, and the reason to book it is room for people and their luggage at the same time. Most seven-seaters force you to choose between the back row and the boot. This one mostly doesn't, and that's the argument of this page. Where the size works against you, in tight parking and at the pump, we'll be honest.

Seven people and their bags, all at once

At over 5.1 metres long, the Traverse carries a third row adults can actually use for a real journey, not just a school hop. That alone separates it from the compact seven-seaters that hide a token bench behind the boot. The number that matters is the cargo left when every seat is full: roughly 650 litres behind the third row, which is enough to load seven people and their cases for an airport collection without anyone's bag riding on a lap. Fold the third row for a family of five and the load bay opens into something genuinely cavernous, swallowing a week of luggage and a stroller with no Tetris. If your trip means moving a crowd and their stuff together, this is the size that makes it painless.

The V6, and why a loaded car still feels easy

That 310 hp V6 reaches 100 km/h in 6.6 seconds, which is brisk for a car this size, but the number isn't the point on its own. What it means in daily use is that you can fill the cabin with seven people and a boot full of cases, point it at Sheikh Zayed Road, and still merge and overtake without the strained drone a small turbo makes doing the same job under load. A slow truck on the E11 takes a squeeze of the pedal, not a long run-up. For a full car on an airport collection or a run out to Abu Dhabi, that reserve is the difference between effortless and anxious. The cost is fuel, which we'll come to.

Fuel, and the honest running cost

A big naturally aspirated six drinks more than a small turbo, so a week of heavy highway miles will show at the pump. The roughly 73-litre tank means you won't be filling daily, and Dubai petrol is cheap by world standards, so the sting is softer here than almost anywhere. The maths only works one way, though. Match the Traverse to full loads and real distance and the fuel makes sense. Use it as a runabout for one or two people on short city hops and you're hauling and feeding an engine you're barely stretching. Salik tolls and any RTA fines during the rental are billed to you, so factor your route in.

Cooling a three-row cabin in summer

A cabin this big is a lot of air to chill, and Dubai summers sit in the mid-40s, so this is a real concern for a full car. The Traverse has the vent count its size demands, with strong front outlets and air that carries back so the middle and third rows aren't left baking. Park in shade where you can, give it a few minutes with the doors shut, and it cools through all three rows rather than just up front. With kids in the back two rows on a hot afternoon, that reach is worth more than any single trim feature.

Placing a big SUV in the city

There's no pretending this is small. At nearly 5.2 metres long and just under two metres wide, the Traverse wants thought in tight multi-storey bays and on the steeper Marina ramps, and U-turns take a wider arc than a crossover. The high seating and large glass help you place it, and once you're used to the length it stops feeling intimidating and just feels large. It's front-wheel drive, so this is a road and family SUV, not a dune machine. For motorway cruising, airport runs and shifting a big group around town it's well sorted, though a week of nothing but tight underground parking will test your patience.

Who should rent it, and who shouldn't

Rent the Chevrolet Traverse 2021 if you're carrying a full house with real luggage and you want a seven-seater that stays quick and composed when it's loaded. The V6 pace and the genuine adult third row are exactly what you're paying for, and used that way it's a comfortable, capable hauler with no deposit holding up your card.

Skip it if you mostly potter around the city with one or two people, because then you're carrying weight and burning fuel for nothing, and a smaller crossover will cost less to run. And if you never touch the third row, a five-seat SUV gives you the same comfort for less again. Pair the Traverse with a crowd and long miles, and that 6.6-second engine earns every dirham.
