Most seven-seaters in this price range hide a small turbo and a CVT under the bonnet, so the Chevrolet Traverse 2020 stands out the moment you press the throttle. We rent it in Dubai with doorstep delivery in one to two hours, and the reason to pick it is the 3.6-litre V6. That engine gives this big SUV the kind of effortless pull most family crossovers can only dream of, which changes how it behaves fully loaded on the highway. If your week involves seven people, real luggage, and long runs between the emirates, that power is the whole argument. This page is about whether you actually need it, or whether you're paying for muscle you'll never use.
The Traverse runs a 3.6-litre V6 making 310 horsepower through an automatic gearbox, and that's a lot of engine for a family SUV. Load it with seven people and a boot full of cases, point it at Sheikh Zayed Road, and it still pulls cleanly up to cruising speed without the strained drone you get from a small turbo doing the same job. Overtaking a slow truck on the E11 takes a squeeze of the pedal, not a deep breath and a prayer. For a full car on a long airport run or a trip out to Abu Dhabi, that reserve of power is genuinely useful rather than a spec-sheet boast. The trade is fuel, and we'll be straight about that below.

This is where the Traverse pulls ahead of smaller seven-seaters. At nearly 5.2 metres long it carries a third row adults can actually sit in for a real trip, not just a school hop. Even with all three rows up there's around 650 litres behind the back seats, enough for an airport collection where you've got seven people and their bags at the same time, which is the test most compact seven-seaters fail. Fold the third row for a family of five and the load bay opens into a cavernous space that swallows a full week's luggage and a stroller without anyone playing Tetris. If you regularly carry a crowd and their stuff together, this is the size that makes it easy.
The V6 is the joy and the catch. A big naturally aspirated six drinks more than a small turbo, so expect real fuel spend if you're piling on highway miles all week. The roughly 82-litre tank means you won't be filling daily, and Dubai petrol is cheap by global standards, so the running cost stings less here than it would elsewhere. Still, if your week is mostly short city errands, you're paying to cart around an engine you're barely stretching. Salik tolls are billed to you as you pass the gates, and any RTA fines during the rental pass to you as well, so factor your route.
A three-row cabin is a big volume of air to chill, and Dubai summers sit in the mid-40s, so this is a real concern for a full car. The Traverse has the vent count to match its size, with strong front outlets and air that carries back through the cabin so middle and third-row passengers aren't left baking. Park in shade where you can, give it a few minutes with the doors shut, and it gets comfortable through all three rows rather than just up front. With kids in the back two rows, that reach matters more than any single trim feature.
There's no pretending this is a small car. At 5189 mm long and nearly two metres wide, the Traverse needs thought in tight multi-storey bays and on the steeper Marina ramps, and U-turns take a wider arc than you'd manage in a crossover. The high seating position and big glass help you place it, and once you're used to the length it's not intimidating, just large. It's front-wheel drive, so this is a road and family SUV, not a dune machine. For motorway cruising, airport runs and moving a big group around town, it's well sorted, but if your week is all tight underground parking, the size will test your patience.
Rent the Chevrolet Traverse 2020 if you're carrying a real crowd with real luggage and you want a seven-seater that doesn't run out of breath fully loaded on the highway. The V6 power and the genuine adult third row are what you're paying for, and used that way it's a comfortable, capable family hauler with doorstep delivery to match. If you mostly potter around the city with one or two passengers, you're carrying weight and burning fuel for nothing, and a smaller crossover or a Captiva will cost you less to run. And if you never use the third row at all, a five-seat SUV gives you the same comfort for less. Match the Traverse to a full house and long miles, and the engine earns every dirham.
