Same V8, new face: what's actually different for 2025

Under the bonnet sits the same 5.3-litre EcoTec3 V8 that has powered every Tahoe since the current generation launched in 2021: 355 hp, 519 Nm and a ten-speed automatic sending drive to all four wheels. The torque arrives low and stays flat, so moving close to two and a half tonnes of body-on-frame SUV away from a red light, or onto Sheikh Zayed Road from a slip lane, never asks the engine to work hard. Four-wheel drive here means confidence on a wet road or a firm desert track, not an invitation to go looking for dunes, and around 203 mm of ground clearance shrugs off a speed bump or a steep mall ramp without you noticing it.

What Chevrolet changed for 2025 is the sheet metal ahead of the windscreen, not what sits behind it. The headlights are now full LED in a slimmer, more angular shape, the grille is squared off and darker, and fog lights come standard for the first time on this model, a small item that was optional or missing on every 2021 through 2024 Tahoe in our fleet. Space, the boot and daily use

Seven seats are standard, either two captain's chairs or a bench across the middle row, with a genuine third row behind them, and an eight-seat layout swaps in a bench for that middle row too. A dark body pulls in more sun than a silver or white one, so after a few hours parked at a mall or a villa driveway in August, the dash and front seats run hotter to the touch. Get back in, crack the windows and give the system a couple of minutes before the cabin settles. That's the price of the colour, not a fault. Few cars in this class carry that many people and that much cargo with so little compromise, and the new grille has nothing to do with why it works. Want cabin polish and a badge over the extra dirhams, the Cadillac Escalade shares the same bones with a plusher interior. Need every seat full and maximum luggage at once, the longer Suburban is built for that, and the Nissan Patrol is the closer match in size and presence if you'd rather try a different badge.

Skip it if it's one or two of you running errands around the city. A five-metre SUV built to move seven people is wasted length in a compact bay and wasted fuel for space you never fill, and a mid-size crossover parks easier and costs less to feed.
