Need the newest budget automatic in Dubai and you're under 21? Start here. We rent the Chevrolet Spark 2025 from age 18, while most of the market won't hand you a key until you're 21, and we'll bring it to your door in one to two hours. This is the freshest take on the cheap city runabout: a small electric automatic with a 10-inch screen and a current safety set, built for one or two people doing errands, commutes and the odd airport drop. The question this page settles is simple. Is the newest, tech-loaded small car the right call for your week, or do you need to size up?
The 2025 Spark isn't the petrol hatchback you might remember. This generation is fully electric, with a single front motor making 75 kW (101 hp) and a 42 kWh battery quoted at 360 km of range. So there's no fuel tank to top up and no Salik-free way around the fact that you'll be charging, not fuelling. For a single driver or a couple, that range covers a normal Dubai week of city driving with room to spare. You plug in at home or at a public charger every few days rather than queueing at a pump.
The automatic part is built in. It's a single-speed drive, so there are no gears to think about, just accelerate and brake. In stop-and-go traffic on the way into the city that's genuinely easier than any manual, and the instant electric pull off the line makes light work of junctions and U-turns.

The 360 km figure is the headline, and for city use it holds up better than it would on a highway. Around town, regenerative braking claws energy back at every light, so short hops barely move the gauge. A driver doing Marina-to-Downtown errands and a daily commute can realistically go several days between charges.
Two honest caveats. First, hard highway running and the air conditioning on full both pull range down, and in a Dubai summer the AC is never off. Plan for real-world numbers below the quoted 360, especially if you're cruising at speed. Second, charging is your responsibility to plan, not a five-minute petrol stop. If your building or hotel has a charger, this car is effortless. If it doesn't, factor in a public-charger visit every few days.
A small cabin is the quiet advantage here. When a parked car has been baking in a 45-degree afternoon, there's less air to cool, so the AC pulls the temperature down faster than it would in a big SUV. Front cooling is the strong point. Treat it as a two-person car for comfort, because the rear vents and rear space are modest, and on a brutal afternoon the back seat takes longer to settle.
Parking is where this car earns its keep. At well under 3.7 metres long and barely 1.6 wide, it slots into the tight multi-storey bays and Marina ramps that leave bigger cars circling. Reversing into a half-bay, threading a packed mall car park, nipping a U-turn on a narrow road: all easy. The 150 mm clearance handles speed bumps and standard ramps without scraping, though this is a city car and nothing more, so leave the soft sand and rough tracks to a crossover.
On Sheikh Zayed Road and the wider E11, the Spark keeps up with traffic and sits comfortably at the limit for getting from A to B. The electric torque makes merging painless. Be honest about the ceiling, though. Above 100 km/h the performance flattens out, overtaking needs planning, and the top speed of 150 km/h is plenty for the law but not for spirited highway work. If your week is mostly long, fast motorway runs, a bigger car will feel less strained.
A few Dubai rules sit on you as the renter. Salik tolls are charged to you each time you pass a gate, and any RTA fines during the rental are yours to settle. Seat belts are required in every seat, and a child under four needs a proper child seat, which we can fit on request.
This is the car's real limit, so plan around it. The boot takes a weekly shop or a couple of soft bags and a backpack with the rear seats up. One large hard case plus a cabin bag is about the ceiling before you start folding seats. For a solo traveller or a couple travelling light it's fine. For an airport run with two big suitcases and passengers, it's tight, and you'll want to drop the rear seats or look at a hatch with a deeper boot.
Rent the Spark 2025 if you're one or two people who want the newest small automatic for the money, with a modern screen and current safety kit, and your week is mostly city driving with the odd highway hop. The age-18 rental and doorstep delivery make it one of the easiest cars to get on the road, and the electric drive means no fuel stops at all.
Skip it if you're carrying four adults and luggage, doing long high-speed motorway days, or you can't charge where you're staying. In those cases, size up to a roomier hatch or a small crossover and accept the slightly higher running cost. For its actual job, getting one or two people around Dubai cheaply in something current, the Spark is hard to beat.
