We hand over the Chevrolet Spark 2020 with whatever payment suits you on the day, card, cash, bank transfer, or a wallet like Apple Pay or Google Pay, so there's no scramble for one specific method at the door. It's an Economy hatchback that rents well in Dubai for one clear job: solo commuting, errands, and slipping into parking bays that bigger cars circle twice. That's the argument of this page. The Spark is the right tool when you're driving alone or two-up around the city, and the wrong one the moment you're loading four adults and airport cases. If that's your week, size up before you book.
Picture a normal Dubai routine for one or two people. Office runs, a grocery stop, a friend across town, the occasional mall. The Spark handles all of that without fuss. It's small, the CVT automatic is smooth in stop-and-go crawl, and you never think twice about where to leave it. For a single renter who just needs reliable wheels for a week, this is close to the cheapest sensible automatic you can put on the road here.
Where it stops making sense is the moment the car fills up. Five seatbelts exist, but the back row is built for short hops and smaller passengers, not three grown adults on a 40-minute drive. Pack two people plus a week's worth of bags and it copes. Add a third and fourth adult and you've outgrown the car.
| Spec | Detail |

| Fuel tank | 38 litres |

| Dimensions (L x W x H) | 3,636 x 1,595 x 1,483 mm |
| Boot | about 314 litres, seats up |
The numbers tell a simple story. A small engine, a light body, and a CVT tuned for economy rather than thrust. The prose below is where those figures actually matter.
Be honest with yourself here, because this is where renters get caught out. The boot holds around 314 litres with the rear seats up. In practical terms that's one large suitcase and a soft bag, or two medium cases if you pack flat. It is not a three-suitcase car.
If you're collecting a family at the airport with a full set of hold luggage, the Spark won't swallow it, and you'll be folding a rear seat down and leaving someone without a proper seat. For that trip, a small sedan or a larger hatch is the safer call. For one person with a cabin bag and a backpack, the Spark has all the room you need.
The 38-litre tank is modest, but so is the appetite. Around town you can expect somewhere in the region of 6 to 8 litres per 100 km depending on traffic and how hard you lean on the AC. That works out to a comfortable 450 km or more between fills in normal city use, so for a typical week of commuting and errands you're looking at one fuel stop, maybe two.
On the highway it sips even less, though you'll feel the small engine working. This is a car that rewards a light right foot and quietly saves you money at the pump, which is most of the reason people rent it.
A Dubai summer afternoon in the high 40s is the real test for any small car, and the Spark passes well enough. The cabin is compact, which is the whole point here: less air to cool means the AC pulls a parked, baking interior down to comfortable faster than a big SUV manages. Front vents do the heavy lifting and they're strong.
Set your expectations honestly. There are no rear climate vents, so back-seat passengers rely on airflow from the front. With one or two people up front that's a non-issue. Park in shade when you can and crack the windows for the first ten seconds, and even a midsummer cabin settles quickly.
This is the Spark's home turf. At under 3.7 metres long it slots into bays that have larger cars reversing and re-aligning. Tight multi-storey ramps, narrow Marina-side parking, the U-turn you misjudged, all of it gets easier when the car is this size. Light steering helps in slow traffic, and you place the corners without guessing.
Speed bumps and mall ramps are taken gently rather than charged at, but that's true of most cars in this class and not a real limitation for city use.
The flip side of a small, frugal engine shows up above 100 km/h. On Sheikh Zayed Road the Spark cruises fine at the limit, but it doesn't have much in reserve for a confident overtake, and you'll plan your moves rather than just stamp on it. Short airport hops to DXB or DWC are no problem, and so is the daily highway commute. A long, fully loaded motorway slog with the AC blasting is where the car feels stretched, and where a bigger hatch earns its keep.
A couple of Dubai rules to keep in mind: Salik tolls and any RTA fines during the rental are the renter's to pay, and seatbelts are required in every seat.
Rent the Spark if you're one or two people who want a cheap, easy automatic for city driving, parking, and short hops, and you care about a small fuel bill. For that brief it's hard to beat, and we'll have it at your door in one to two hours.
Look elsewhere if you regularly carry four adults, haul real luggage, or spend most of your week on the highway. Step up to a roomier hatch like the MG3 or a small sedan, and you'll be more comfortable for the kind of week that the Spark, honestly, isn't built for.
