We hand over the BMW X2 2024 across Dubai with doorstep delivery in one to two hours, so the car meets you at home, the hotel, or the airport curb rather than the other way round. This is the coupe-shaped compact crossover in BMW's range, the one that swaps a bit of practicality for a lower, sharper roofline and a drive that feels keener than a regular small SUV. If you want a premium cabin, a higher seat, and a bit of attitude in the way it looks and moves, the X2 is built for you. The trade-off is rear headroom and a smaller boot, and it costs more than a mainstream crossover. This page is about whether that trade is worth it for your week here.
Think of it as a 1 Series hatch wearing an SUV jacket and a coupe haircut. The roof drops toward the back for style, which is the whole point of the car and also the source of its compromises. Up front it drives like a proper BMW: the 2.0-litre turbo four sends 192 hp through all four wheels and an automatic gearbox, and it gets to 100 km/h in 7.4 seconds. That is quick enough to make merging onto Sheikh Zayed Road a non-event and overtaking on the E11 a quick, confident move rather than a planning exercise.
The all-wheel drive isn't about off-roading. It is about putting that power down cleanly and giving the car a planted, surefooted feel when you push it through a fast interchange. On the kind of roads you actually drive in Dubai, the X2 feels tied down and eager in a way most compact crossovers don't.

Two people up front have a genuinely good time. The seats are supportive, the driving position is a touch higher than a hatch, and the cabin feels like money well spent. The back is where the coupe shape sends its bill. That sloping roof eats into rear headroom, so a tall adult sitting behind a tall driver will find their hair brushing the lining on a longer run. For kids, a couple of friends on a night out, or adults on short hops across town, the rear bench is fine. For four full-size adults doing an airport run with luggage, it gets tight, and that is the honest line on this car.
The boot is rated at 560 litres, which sounds generous, but the loading shape is shallower than a boxier SUV because of the styling. In real terms you'll fit two large cases plus a couple of soft bags for a DXB or DWC pickup. Push past that, say four people each with a hard case, and you're folding part of the rear seat or repacking. Drop the seats and the hold opens up to 1470 litres, which is plenty for two travelling light with sports kit or shopping hauls.
A Dubai summer is the real test of any rental, and the X2 handles it the way a premium BMW should. After the car has baked in a 45 degree car park, the air conditioning pulls the cabin down quickly, and the front vents are strong and well placed. Rear passengers get their own vents too, which matters if you're carrying people in the back through August rather than just luggage. Park in shade when you can and the glass roofline still heats up fast, so give it a minute on full cold before you load kids in.
This is one place the coupe-SUV format actually pays off. The X2 is compact for its class at 4554 mm long, so tight multi-storey bays and the squeeze into a Marina basement aren't the ordeal they are in a bigger SUV. Visibility forward is good, the steering is light at parking speed, and U-turns are easy. Ground clearance sits around 207 mm, enough to clear mall ramps and speed bumps without the scraping you get in a low sports car, though you still slow for the sharper humps. It's an easy car to place in traffic and an easy one to live with for a week of errands.
With the 2.0-litre turbo and all-wheel drive, expect roughly 7.5 litres per 100 km on a mixed week, more if you sit in stop-start traffic with the AC fighting the heat. The 51-litre tank gives you a comfortable range, so a typical visitor doing city driving and a couple of longer runs fills up maybe once across the week. Fuel here is cheap by global standards, so the X2's appetite won't sting the way it might elsewhere.
Salik tolls and any RTA fines during your rental are the renter's responsibility, so stay aware of the gantries and the speed limits. Seat belts are mandatory in every seat, and children under four need a proper child seat, which we can sort out before delivery. Your booking includes a 250 km a day allowance, comfortable for city use and airport runs without much thought.
Rent the X2 if you're a couple or a solo driver who wants something premium that looks sharp, sits a little higher, and drives with real pace. It's the style-led pick in this size, and the 192 hp all-wheel-drive setup backs up the looks. If you regularly carry four adults, need tall rear passengers to be comfortable, or want the most boot for the money, size up to the X1, which shares the underpinnings but keeps a taller roof and a roomier back seat. And if practicality is the only thing that matters to you, a mainstream crossover will give you more space for less. The X2 asks you to pay, in cash and in rear room, for the way it looks and drives. For the right driver, that's exactly the point.
