The Volkswagen Teramont 2025 is bigger than most renters expect from the badge. At just over five metres long, with three full rows and 4MOTION all-wheel drive, it sits closer in scale to a Patrol or a Q7 than to the Tiguan or T-Roc most people picture when they hear Volkswagen. The engine, and how it drives

Every Teramont sold new in the region right now runs the same drivetrain: a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder making 270 hp and 370 Nm, paired with an 8-speed automatic and 4MOTION all-wheel drive. Some listings still reference an older 3.6-litre V6 from a previous generation of the car, so if a desk quotes you that engine, you're looking at a different vehicle under the same name, not this one. The 2.0-litre turbo is enough to move a two-tonne-plus SUV without feeling strained, and on Sheikh Zayed Road it settles into a quiet cruise with a reasonable amount left for an overtake. It's not fast in the way a G63 or an X7 M-Sport is fast, and it isn't trying to be. 4MOTION here is about grip on a wet roundabout or a steep mall ramp, not a low-range system built for the dunes. Treat the Teramont as a big, composed road car and it does that job well. Don't expect Hatta trail credentials just because the badge says all-wheel drive.

Seats, boot and the honest cargo trade-off

This is a real seven-seater, laid out 2+3+2, and the third row is the part worth being straight about. Two adults fit back there for a shorter hop, an airport run or dinner across town, though it isn't where you'd put grown adults for a long highway drive. Kids are comfortable back there on any trip. The middle row slides forward to make climbing in and out manageable, so nobody's fighting the door on the way to a restaurant.

Luggage is the trade you plan around, same as with any three-row SUV. With all seven seats up, the boot holds about 583 litres, which is a large case and a couple of soft bags rather than a fleet of hard shells. Fold the third row down and that opens up to roughly 2,735 litres, more than enough for a family's full luggage set on an airport run. The honest limit is the one every big SUV in this class runs into eventually: seven passengers and seven full-size suitcases at the same time doesn't happen. Fold a seat, or split the group across two trips, and the space works fine either way.

Running cost, heat and the cabin

The 70-litre tank and a combined figure of around 11.2 km per litre give you a decent range between fills, and VW's own highway estimate runs close to 980 km. Real city driving with the AC working hard will sit thirstier than that combined number, which is normal for a car this size. Heat is the question every renter in Dubai asks, and a cabin this size needs a bit more time to pull down from a parked 45-degree afternoon than a compact SUV does, simply because there's more air to move. The system is strong enough to manage it without fuss, and rear passengers get their own vents rather than waiting for cold air to reach the third row. Give it a couple of minutes with the doors open before you climb back in on a July afternoon, and the rest of the drive is comfortable.

At just over five metres long, the Teramont asks for a bit more care in a tight Marina multi-storey or a compact mall bay than a mid-size SUV would. The 203mm of ground clearance shrugs off speed bumps and steep ramps without a second thought.

Who should rent it, and who should size down

Rent the Teramont if you need real three-row space some or all of the time: a family of five or more, a group with an occasional extra passenger, or anyone who wants SUV height and presence without stepping up to a full luxury badge. For that brief, it's one of the more sensible big SUVs to live with over a week, and the running cost is lighter than a V8 or big-six rival in the same class.

Size down if it's one or two people doing city errands and the odd airport run. You'll spend the week parking a five-metre SUV and paying for fuel a smaller car wouldn't need, when a Tiguan or a mid-size crossover does the same job for less.
