Toyota Fortuner 2023 - start from 320 AED / day

Pay how it suits you when the keys arrive, by card, cash, bank transfer, or a tap of Apple Pay or Google Pay, and we'll have the Toyota Fortuner 2023 at your door in Dubai inside an hour or two. This is the body-on-frame, seven-seat 4x4 that families pick when they want the real thing: a high commanding seat, a chassis built like a pickup, and enough clearance and traction to leave the tarmac. It trades the soft manners of a car-based crossover for genuine Hatta and dune ability. The rest of this page is about whether that trade is right for your week.

What you're actually renting

The Fortuner is a truck underneath, and that shapes everything. The ladder frame and switchable 4WD are why it climbs a graded desert track that would stop a unibody crossover cold. The flip side is a ride that stays firm over Dubai's speed bumps and a cabin that feels more rugged than plush. The 2.8-litre turbo-diesel makes 200 hp here, and it's a torquey, hard-working unit rather than a fast one. With seven seats and a heavy body to haul, 0 to 100 km/h takes 10.8 seconds. That's fine. You feel the weight asking for a quick overtake on a single carriageway, but on a steady cruise it pulls without fuss.

Will my family and luggage fit

Seven seats, yes, but read the rows honestly. The first two are roomy, with proper space for four adults and good headroom under that tall roof. The third row is best treated as occasional. Two children ride back there happily for an airport run or a day at the beach. Two grown adults will manage a short hop but won't thank you on a long one.

Luggage is the real catch with any seven-seater. With all three rows up, the boot behind the back seats is shallow, enough for a few soft bags and the day's shopping, not a family's suitcases. Fold the third row flat and you free up a deep, square load bay that swallows several large cases with room to spare. So the planning rule is simple: seven people and light bags, or five or six people and a full holiday's luggage. Trying to do both at once is where families get caught out at the kerb.

Heat, cooling and the daily drive

The cabin is large and sits high, so on a 45-degree afternoon it takes a little longer to drop from oven to comfortable than a small hatch does. It gets there. Run the front vents on full for the first few minutes with windows cracked, and the rear vents matter here: they feed the second row directly, which keeps kids in the back from cooking while the front cools first. That high seating position is the everyday reward, you see over traffic and the view out is excellent.

On Sheikh Zayed Road and the E11 the Fortuner cruises calmly at the limit. It's stable and quiet enough once it's up to speed, and the diesel's torque means you rarely need to work it hard. Airport runs to DXB or the longer haul to DWC are no strain.

Parking a tall 4x4 in the city

This is a big vehicle, nearly 4.8 metres long and tall with it. In Marina towers and older multi-storey malls the tight bays and low ramps are the daily friction. You park it deliberately, use the cameras, and pick the end bay when you can. None of this is hard once you've done it twice, but if your week is all narrow streets and cramped basements, a smaller car is less effort. The 220 mm of clearance that helps off-road also means a higher step up into the cabin, worth knowing if you're lifting small kids or older passengers in and out all day.

Where it earns its keep: Hatta and the desert

Here's where the truck DNA pays off. With selectable 4WD and 220 mm of clearance, the Fortuner handles graded desert tracks, the run up to Hatta's dam and pools, and soft sand with the tyres aired down far better than any car-based crossover. If your trip includes a real off-tarmac day, this is the rental that does it without drama. On Dubai's roads the same hardware just sits there as reassurance. On a weekend escape it's the whole point.

On running cost, the 80-litre tank and frugal diesel give it long legs, but expect real-world economy nearer 9 to 10 L/100km in mixed Dubai driving, not the official lab figure. You'll still go a long way between fills. One housekeeping note: Salik tolls and any RTA fines run on your rental and pass to you, seat belts are required in every row, and a child seat is the rule for under-fours, easy to add when we deliver.

Who should rent it, and who shouldn't

Rent the Fortuner if you've got a family of five or six, want seven seats in reserve, and have a desert or Hatta day in the plan. Nothing in this class gives you that capability with this much dependability. If your week is pure city and motorway, smooth tarmac, tight parking, and outright ride comfort, a car-based seven-seater or a large sedan will feel calmer and easier to place, and you won't miss the 4WD you never use. Pick the Fortuner for what it does that they can't, not in spite of the firm ride that comes with it.
