Toyota Yaris Cross 2022 - start from 102 AED / day

A full tank in the Toyota Yaris Cross 2022 lasts most renters the better part of a week, and that's the single best reason to book one. We rent this hybrid crossover across Dubai with 250 km a day included and a no-deposit option at checkout, so you keep your card free while you pocket the fuel saving. It pairs a 1.5-litre petrol with an electric motor for a combined 116 hp, sips fuel in the way only a hybrid in stop-start traffic can, and still gives you the higher seating and chunkier look of a small crossover. The case for it is efficiency first: if your week is city miles and the odd airport hop, almost nothing here will cost you less to keep moving. This page covers where that efficiency pays off and where the small size sets the limit.

The hybrid, and why it saves you money here

Dubai traffic is exactly where a hybrid shines. Crawling on Sheikh Zayed Road or queuing for a Marina ramp, the petrol engine switches off and the electric motor does the low-speed work, so you're not burning fuel sitting still. Toyota quotes economy in the 22.2 to 24.3 km/L range, and the 36-litre tank gives a quoted range up to 947 km. Even allowing for Dubai's heavy AC load, real city driving stays remarkably low, which on a week of errands means one fill, maybe a splash before you hand it back.

The trade-off is character, not economy. The combined 116 hp moves it cleanly around town through its e-CVT, but it's tuned for thrift rather than thrust.

Highway manners and honest limits

The Yaris Cross is happiest below 120. It cruises the E11 calmly and holds its lane without fuss, but ask for a hard overtake at speed and the small hybrid system has to work, with the e-CVT sending revs up before the car gathers itself. It gets there, just without drama or urgency. For short DXB or DWC airport runs with light luggage it's fine. For long, fully loaded highway days, a larger engine is worth the upgrade.

Parking and the city, where it belongs

At 4180 mm long, this is a car built for the bays a bigger crossover has to fight for. Tight multi-storey parking around Downtown and Marina, U-turns and reverse parks all come easy thanks to the short overhangs and the upright glass. The 170 mm of ground clearance clears speed bumps and the steeper mall and Marina ramps that catch out a low hatch. Drive goes to the front wheels only, so treat it as a paved-roads car. Sand and any real off-road belong to a proper 4x4.

Staying cool in the heat

Dubai summers push past 45 degrees, and a small cabin is an advantage here. There's less air to cool, so the AC brings a baked Yaris Cross down to comfortable faster than a large SUV manages. Crack the windows for the first thirty seconds to dump the worst of the heat, then close up and the front vents do the rest quickly. Be realistic about the back: this is a budget crossover, so rear passengers rely on airflow from the front rather than their own vents. For two up front it's never an issue. Pack it on a hot afternoon and the second row warms up.

Space, and who it suits

Five seatbelts are there, but the back seat suits two adults on shorter trips, not three across to Abu Dhabi, and fitting a child seat tightens rear legroom fast. The boot is honest small-class space, a single large case plus a couple of soft bags with the seats up, expanding to around 1097 litres folded for a flat-pack run or a big shop when you're not carrying passengers. Need full luggage and a full back seat at the same time and you've outgrown the class.

A few Dubai rules

Salik tolls you pass through are billed to you, and any RTA fines during the rental pass to the renter too. Seat belts are mandatory in every seat, and children under four need a proper child seat. None of this is unique to this car, but it's worth knowing before you set off.

Who should rent it, and who shouldn't

Rent the Yaris Cross 2022 if you're one or two people who want the lowest fuel bills, easy parking and a higher view for a week of city driving and the odd light airport run. As a frugal city companion it's hard to beat, and the hybrid saving is real money over a week.

Size up if your trip looks bigger. Four adults with luggage, or anyone planning long, loaded highway days, should step into a Corolla Cross for the extra cabin and a stronger highway feel. If you actually want Hatta or the dunes, skip the front-drive crossovers and take a RAV4. The Yaris Cross is honest about what it is: a small, efficient city car wearing crossover boots, and a very good one for the right driver.
