We hand over the Nissan Sunny 2022 anywhere in Dubai, usually within one to two hours of your booking, so the car reaches you instead of you chasing a rental desk. It's a budget compact sedan that rents cheap on the older model year, and that's the whole point of this page. If you want a roomy back seat, a boot that swallows airport cases, and frugal running for daily commutes, the Sunny earns its keep. This is the value workhorse of the lineup, not the flashy one. Below is what the spec sheet actually means for a week of driving here, and where you'd be better off in a different car.
The 2022 rents for less than the newer Sunny years, and mechanically you're not giving up much. Same 1.6-litre engine, same five-seat layout, same big boot. The cabin trim is a little plainer and the year is older, so the rate is softer. For an airport run, a month of commuting, or errands across town, none of that matters once you're moving.
What you get for the money is space. The back seat is genuinely roomy for a car this cheap, with proper legroom for two adults and room to squeeze a third for short hops. The boot is the real selling point. At 416 litres it takes two large suitcases plus a couple of soft bags without a fight, which is more than most economy hatchbacks and even some pricier sedans manage. For a DXB or DWC pickup with a family and luggage, that boot is why people choose the Sunny over a smaller car.
| Spec | Figure |

| Fuel tank | 41 litres |
| Range | roughly 650 km on a tank |

| Ground clearance | 161 mm |
| Top speed | 200 km/h |

The table is the reference. The rest of the page is what the numbers mean.
The Sunny sips fuel, which is the second reason it books out as a commuter. Expect around 6.0 litres per 100km in mixed driving, a bit more if you sit in Sheikh Zayed Road crawls with the AC on full. On the 41-litre tank that works out to roughly 650 km of range, so a normal week of city errands and a couple of airport runs needs one fill, maybe a top-up. Petrol is cheap here, so the Sunny's running cost over a month of commuting is about as low as a five-seat automatic gets.
One thing to remember: Salik tolls and any RTA fines are on the renter, not us. The Sunny has no toll tag drama beyond that, but if your route crosses gates daily, factor those in alongside fuel.
Dubai summers push past 45 degrees, and a white car that's been parked in the sun is an oven when you open the door. The Sunny's AC is straightforward single-zone air, not climate luxury, but it cools the cabin honestly. Front vents pull hard and the smaller, simpler cabin means it drops to comfortable in a few minutes rather than the long wait you get in a big SUV. There are no rear vents, so back-seat passengers rely on airflow from the front, which is fine for a 20-minute drive but worth knowing if you're carrying kids across town at midday. Park in shade where you can and it copes well.
The 118 hp engine is relaxed, not quick. Around town and on the school run it's perfectly happy, light to steer and easy to place. On Sheikh Zayed Road and the E11 it cruises at the limit without complaint, but plan your overtakes early. The Sunny gathers speed gently rather than surging, so it's a car you drive smoothly, not one you hustle. For most renters that's exactly right.
Parking is easy. At 4496 mm long it's a compact sedan, the steering is light, and visibility is good, so Marina ramps, mall multi-storey bays, and tight U-turns are no trouble. The 161 mm ground clearance handles Dubai's speed bumps and the steeper mall ramps without scraping, as long as you take them at a sensible angle. Seatbelts are mandatory in every seat, and child seats are required for under-fours, same as any car here.
Rent the Sunny 2022 if you want the cheapest comfortable five-seat automatic for commuting, errands, and airport runs with real luggage. The roomy back seat, big boot, and low fuel use make it the sensible value pick, and the older year keeps the rate down without costing you anything that matters day to day.
Step up to a midsize sedan if you'll spend long stretches at speed on the highway with four adults aboard, where you'd want more punch for overtaking and a plusher cabin for the distance. And if you're driving solo or as a couple with light bags and never need that boot, a smaller hatch will rent for less and park even easier. But for the family of four heading from the airport to a Dubai apartment with a week of cases, the Sunny is hard to beat for the money.
