Pay however suits you when we hand the keys over, by card, cash, or wallet, and you've already cleared the part that trips up most Dubai rentals. The Nissan Sunny 2023 rents with us across Dubai, delivered to your door, and it earns its keep the boring way: a dependable, frugal compact sedan that turns up every morning, swallows the daily commute and the airport run, and asks for very little back. That's the whole case for it. This isn't the most exciting car on the lot, and it doesn't pretend to be. It's the one you rent when you want a roomy back seat, a big boot, and a fuel bill that barely moves.
Think of the Sunny as a commuter and an errand car first. The 1.6-litre, 118 hp engine and automatic gearbox are tuned for relaxed driving, not quick getaways, and that suits how most people use a rental here. School run, office, a Carrefour shop, a weekend visit across town, it handles all of that without drama. Two adults up front and two or three in the back travel comfortably, with proper room behind the front seats rather than the token legroom of a hatchback.
Where the Sunny shows its budget roots is the cabin. The plastics are hard, the screen is basic, and the engine gets vocal if you ask it to climb to highway speed in a hurry. None of that matters on a daily loop. It starts to matter if you're spending three hours a day in the car, which is when a midsize sedan earns its extra rate.
| Spec | Detail |
|---|---|
| Class / body | Economy sedan, 5 seats |
| Engine | 1.6L 4-cylinder petrol |
| Power | 118 hp |
| Transmission | Automatic |
| Drivetrain | Front-wheel drive |
| Fuel economy | About 6 L/100km combined |
| Fuel tank | 41 litres |
| Range | Roughly 600 km on a tank |
| Dimensions (L x W x H) | 4496 x 1740 x 1455 mm |
| Wheelbase | 2618 mm |
| Boot | 490 litres |
| Colour | Grey |
This is where the Sunny quietly wins its class. The boot is 490 litres, large for a compact sedan, and the opening is wide and square rather than pinched. For a DXB or DWC pickup, two large hard-shell cases go in flat with room for a cabin bag on top. Three large cases is pushing it, but two big ones plus soft bags is no trouble. A family of four arriving with a week of luggage gets more here than at most cars this price, and the back seat stays clear for passengers instead of overflow bags.
The rear seats split and fold on most trims for a flat-pack run, but the boot is the real story here, and it's a good one.
The 41-litre tank and roughly 6 L/100km combined figure mean you can go a long time between fills. On a normal week of Dubai city driving, school, work, the odd mall trip, expect to fill up once. Be honest with yourself though: in stop-and-go traffic with the AC fighting 45-degree heat, real economy drifts up toward 7 to 8 litres per 100km, so the quoted figure is the easy-driving best case, not your daily average. Even at the higher end, a tank still clears 500 km of mixed driving, which covers most rentals comfortably.
For longer hauls, a steady cruise on Sheikh Zayed Road or out to Abu Dhabi, the Sunny settles into a relaxed gait and sips fuel. It just doesn't enjoy being rushed. Overtaking at speed needs planning, and above 100 the engine note climbs more than the speed does. Keep your expectations at calm and economical, and the Sunny is good company.
The AC is what renters care about most in summer, and the Sunny's pulls a parked, sun-baked cabin down to comfortable in a few minutes from the front vents. There are no rear vents on the base setup, so back-seat passengers cool a beat slower, worth knowing if you're carrying kids in the afternoon.
Size works in your favour around town. At 4496 mm long it slots into tight multi-storey bays, manages Marina ramps without scraping, and the light steering makes U-turns and reverse parking easy. A few Dubai admin points worth stating plainly: Salik tolls are billed to you as the renter, any RTA fines during your rental pass to you, and seat belts are required in every seat, with child seats mandatory for under-fours. Drive sensibly and none of that costs you anything.
Rent the Sunny if you want a no-fuss, cheap-to-run sedan for commuting, errands, and airport runs, and you value back-seat space and boot size over polish or pace. For a small family or a single traveller who wants room without paying for a bigger car, it's one of the smartest value picks we hand out.
Step up to a midsize sedan if you'll spend long stretches on the highway, carry four adults regularly, or simply want a quieter, more refined cabin. And if it's only ever you, in and out of tight city streets with light luggage, a cheaper hatchback will save you a little more and park even easier. For the broad middle, the dependable daily driver who wants space and a low fuel bill, the Sunny is exactly the right amount of car.
