We hand over the Toyota Yaris 2021 across Dubai with 250 km a day built into the rate, which is plenty for the kind of driving this car is actually good at. It's a small 1.5-litre automatic sedan, the dependable, cheap-to-run kind, and we rent it most often to people who drive alone or with one passenger and want the fuel bill to stay quiet. That's the honest argument of this page. The Yaris is the right tool for commuting, errands and parking in tight bays, and the wrong one for four adults with airport luggage or a week of fast highway runs. If that second description is you, skip down to the recommendation, because a Corolla suits you better.

Treat the table as reference. What matters is what those numbers mean for a week of driving, and that's the rest of the page.
This is the reason most people end up in a Yaris. The 1.5-litre engine sips fuel, and on a normal week of city driving you're looking at around 6.5 to 7 litres per 100 km once Dubai heat and stop-start traffic are factored in. The official combined figure of roughly 5.5 sits below that, as official figures usually do. With a 42-litre tank, a single fill takes you most of a week of errands and commuting, often past 550 km before the light comes on.
For a solo commuter doing a daily cross-city run, that's one cheap fuel stop a week. The 250 km a day included in your rate covers that pattern easily. You'd have to be doing serious distance or repeated out-of-emirate trips to brush against it.
At 4425 mm long the Yaris is a compact sedan, and it shows where it counts. Tight multi-storey bays, the spiral ramps under Marina towers, mall parking on a Friday: this car slots into all of it without the breath-holding a bigger sedan demands. U-turns are quick, the turning circle is tight, and reversing into a narrow gap is a non-event.
Ground clearance is modest at around 111 mm, which is fine for the daily reality of Dubai speed bumps and standard mall ramps as long as you take the steeper ones at a sensible angle. It's a low car, so loaded with passengers you'll want to ease over the aggressive humps rather than charge them. Nothing about that is unusual for a sedan in this class.
Every rental in Dubai lives or dies on this, and the Yaris does fine for what it is. The cabin is small, which works in your favour: there's less air to cool, so on a 45-degree afternoon the front vents pull a parked car down to comfortable faster than a big SUV would. A couple of minutes with the fan up and it's livable, a few more and it's properly cold up front. Rear passengers rely on airflow from the front rather than their own vents, so a fully loaded back seat in peak summer takes a little longer to settle. For one or two people, the AC is never the problem.
The boot is genuinely good for the class, around 476 litres, more than most hatchbacks this size offer. Two large cases plus a couple of soft bags fit without a fight, so a DXB or DWC airport hop for a couple is comfortable. Up front the seats are roomy, and the back is fine for two adults on shorter trips or for kids.
Where it tightens is the obvious case: three adults across the rear for a long drive, or four adults plus a full set of suitcases. The Yaris will carry it, but nobody in the back will thank you on a long run. Honest version: two adults and luggage is easy, and a family of four around town is fine. Four adults and a week of cases, look elsewhere.
Around the city the Yaris is exactly what you want. Light steering, an automatic that's smooth in traffic, easy to place. The 106 hp is plenty for keeping up with everything that matters below 100.
The highway is where you should set expectations honestly. On Sheikh Zayed Road it cruises happily at the limit, but ask it to overtake briskly at speed, or push past 120 with the car loaded, and the small engine has to work for it. The pace above 100 is adequate, not eager. For a short blast to the airport or an occasional intercity trip it's perfectly fine. For someone who lives on the highway and overtakes constantly, it'll feel underpowered, and that's the line where a bigger engine earns its keep.
Salik tolls are billed to you as the renter, and any RTA fines during your rental pass to you, so drive it as your own. Seat belts are required in every seat. None of this is specific to the Yaris, but it's worth knowing before you collect the keys.
Rent the Yaris if you're driving solo or as a pair, doing city commuting, errands, the school run and the odd airport trip, and you want the cheapest sensible automatic with Toyota reliability behind it. For that person it's close to ideal, and the low fuel bill is the whole point.
Size up if you regularly carry four adults, haul a lot of luggage, or spend most of your driving overtaking on the highway. In that case the Corolla is the call: same dependability, more room, and an engine that doesn't strain when you ask it to move. The Yaris is a precise tool for a specific job, and it's worth knowing whether that job is yours before you book.
