Rent Toyota Veloz 2024 in Dubai

Not every seven-seat rental in Dubai comes with SUV-sized running costs. The Toyota Veloz 2024 sits next to the Highlander and the Fortuner on our fleet and does the same core job, three rows for a family or a group, for a lot less to book and a lot less to feed at the pump. We bring it to your door in one to two hours, in white, and it parks like a car half its seat count would suggest. If you need seven seats for a Dubai week and don't need a truck-based SUV to get them, this page is about whether the Veloz's engine and cabin are enough for your trip.

The engine, and how it drives

The Veloz runs a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four making 105 hp and 138 Nm, sent to the front wheels through a CVT. Next to the Fortuner's V6 or the Highlander's larger four, that's a modest number on paper, but the Veloz is also thinner and lighter than either, so it doesn't feel underpowered around town. City traffic, roundabouts and the ramp up to a mall car park are all well within what this engine wants to do.

Sheikh Zayed Road is where the gap shows. The Veloz will sit at 120 km/h without drama, but a fully loaded overtake, seven people and their bags aboard, asks for a gap in traffic rather than a quick stab of the throttle. Treat it as a car for getting somewhere, not for making up time on the highway. There's no all-wheel-drive version and no low range, so this stays a tarmac car. Speed bumps, mall ramps and the odd unpaved stretch are fine; a Hatta wadi track is a job for the Fortuner.

Three rows, and what fits behind them

Seating is two up front, three across the middle bench, and two more in the third row, seven in total. The middle row is genuinely usable for adults on a city trip. The third row is the honest compromise: fine for kids or for two adults on a short hop to the mall or the airport, tight for anyone over about six feet on a longer run.

Luggage is where you need to plan. With all seven seats up, the boot behind the third row holds about 137 litres, room for soft bags and a backpack each, not seven people's suitcases. Fold that back row down and it opens out to roughly 498 litres, enough for a proper family load if you're travelling five or fewer. So the real rule for a full DXB pickup with seven people is: pack light, or fold a row and travel with fewer bodies. The Highlander and Fortuner both carry more with every seat up, and that's exactly what you're paying extra for on those bookings.

At 4,475 mm long and 1,750 mm wide, the Veloz is noticeably smaller than either of those two, and it shows at every ramp and multi-storey bay in the Marina or Downtown. Ground clearance sits at 205 mm, enough to take speed bumps and steep basement entrances without a scrape.

Running cost, heat and the cabin

Toyota's own combined figure works out to around 19 km/L, call it 5.3 litres per 100 km, though a week of Dubai traffic with the AC working hard will land a bit thirstier than that lab number. Even so, the 43-litre tank should carry you 500 to 600 km of real city driving between fills, which for most renters means one stop a week, maybe two if you're commuting in from further out daily.

Mileage on this car runs 250 km a day, with extra distance billed at AED 0.5 per kilometre. That covers ordinary school runs, malls and airport trips comfortably; a big day trip out of the city is worth a quick sum first. Salik tolls and any RTA fines during the rental are the renter's responsibility, as with every car here, and child seats are required for anyone under four, worth booking ahead if you're filling that third row with kids.

The cabin is compact next to the Highlander or Fortuner, which actually helps in July. Less air to chill means the front vents pull the first two rows down to comfortable faster than a bigger SUV manages. The third row is further from those vents and takes longer to cool on a car that has sat closed in the sun, so give it a few minutes running before you load everyone in, and use shaded or basement parking where you can. This isn't a luxury climate system, and at this size and price it shouldn't need to be.

Who should rent it, and who should look elsewhere

Rent the Veloz if you need seven seats for a Dubai week and want the cheapest sensible way to get them. Families with kids, a group splitting one car instead of two taxis, or anyone who wants three rows without paying SUV money for fuel and the daily rate, this is the booking. Doorstep delivery lands in one to two hours, and you'll need to be 25 to take the keys.

Look at the Highlander or Fortuner instead if you regularly carry seven people and full luggage at the same time, or if your week involves real highway miles fully loaded, or a trip out to Hatta and the dunes. The Veloz doesn't pretend to do any of that. What it does well is move a full car of people around the city cheaply, and for that one job it's hard to beat on this fleet.
