Fully loaded it still merges onto Sheikh Zayed Road with ease and overtakes on the E11 without you planning three cars ahead. At a 120 cruise it stays settled and quiet, which is exactly what a long-distance people mover should do.

The trade-off is fuel. A V6 hauling a big body through a 60-litre tank drinks more than a four-cylinder SUV, and Dubai's summer crawl with the AC working makes it thirstier still. Plan on a tank lasting several days of mixed driving, and factor one fill-up into any inter-emirate trip. For the comfort it buys, most groups find that a fair deal.

A big interior is harder to cool, and Dubai's high-40s heat is the test that matters. The Carnival comes with rear air vents feeding the second and third rows, so the people furthest from the dashboard aren't left to suffer. With a full load of passengers on a hot day, that even cooling is worth more than any cabin gadget.

Luggage, and where it gets tight

Behind the third row you have 540 litres, fine for a group's soft bags or the weekly shop with every seat occupied. Where it tightens is seven people plus seven hard cases at once, which won't all fit upright. Fold part of the rear row and the load space grows hugely, enough for a family's worth of holiday luggage. For an airport run with five or six aboard, plan the seating against the bags and you'll have room for both.

Size, parking, and the rules that fall to you

This is a large vehicle, over five metres long and close to two wide, so it asks for care in tight multi-storey bays, on Marina ramps, and through narrow U-turns. The 180 mm of ground clearance handles speed bumps and mall entrances without scraping.
