Hyundai STARIA 2024 - start from 436 AED / day

Need a vehicle that swallows a whole group and their bags without anyone riding with a suitcase on their lap? We rent the Hyundai Staria 2024 across Dubai, delivered to your door, and you settle up however suits you on handover: credit or debit card, cash, bank transfer, Apple Pay, Google Pay, even crypto. That flexibility matters when a big group is splitting a bill. The Staria is a nine-seat people-mover built around space and a calm ride, and this page is here to help you work out whether it's the right call for your week, or whether a smaller SUV would serve a smaller group better.

Who the Staria actually suits

This is a van, and it makes no apology for it. The Staria is for the trip where headcount is the problem. A family of eight with a grandparent along, a wedding party shuttling between hotel and venue, a corporate group landing together and needing one vehicle instead of three taxis. Nine people fit with room to stretch, and the rear still holds real luggage rather than forcing someone to nurse a bag at their feet.

If your group is four or five, the Staria is more vehicle than you need. A seven-seat SUV is easier to park and cheaper to feed, and you lose nothing in comfort for a smaller crowd. The Staria earns its keep at seven passengers and up, especially when those passengers also have full-size cases.

Treat the table as reference. What follows is what those numbers mean once you're driving it in Dubai.

Space, seating and luggage

The cabin is the whole point. At over five metres long and nearly two metres wide, the Staria gives every row genuine shoulder and leg room, and the tall roofline means even adults in the back row aren't hunched. Getting in is easy too, the sliding doors and low floor help anyone who struggles with a high SUV step.

Luggage is where it pulls clear of every seven-seater. With all nine seats up you still have a usable boot behind the last row, enough for the soft bags and backpacks of a full group. Drop the rear row and you have space for a stack of large cases, which is the configuration most airport groups want: seven or eight people plus the week's luggage, all in one vehicle. The honest caveat is that nine adults and nine large cases is asking a lot of any single vehicle. If everyone has a big hard-shell case, plan to fold the back row and seat eight.

How it drives, and the pace to expect

The 3.5 V6 has 249 HP, which sounds like plenty, and around town it is. Pulling away from lights and merging onto Sheikh Zayed Road, the Staria is smooth and unbothered. It's an automatic with front-wheel drive, tuned for comfort, not for pace. Load it with nine people and their bags and you feel the weight, overtaking on the E11 wants a bit of planning rather than a stab of the throttle. That's the nature of the vehicle. Nobody rents a nine-seater to win traffic-light races, and the trade is a ride that stays settled and quiet at a cruise, which is exactly what you want on a long airport run with a tired group.

It is long and tall, and you drive it accordingly. Multi-storey car parks with a posted height limit are worth checking before you commit, at just under two metres tall the Staria clears most but not the tightest. Marina and mall bays take some patience, this is a vehicle you reverse into a space deliberately rather than flick into a gap. The 186 mm of ground clearance handles speed bumps and mall ramps without scraping, so the day-to-day stuff is fine. Just give yourself room on U-turns and tight ramps.

Heat, fuel and the running costs

Dubai summers sit in the mid-40s, and a cabin this big takes longer to cool than a small hatch simply because there's more air to chill. The upside is that the Staria has vents feeding every row, so once the system catches up, the people in the back row get cold air too rather than baking while the front stays comfortable. When you collect it from a parked spot at midday, give it a few minutes with the AC on full before everyone piles in, and it pulls down to comfortable well enough for a full load.

On fuel, be realistic. A 3.5 V6 carrying a heavy van through city traffic and stop-start heat is not economical, and you should expect to visit the pump more often than you would in a small car. The 75-litre tank gives you a sensible range for airport runs and city days between fills, but a week of heavy group driving will mean a couple of refuels. Factor that in when you compare it against a smaller vehicle for a smaller group.

Dubai rules worth knowing

A few practical points before you book. Salik tolls are charged to the renter, so every gate you pass through on Sheikh Zayed Road and the major routes is on you. Any RTA fines during your rental pass to you as well, so keep an eye on speed limits, easy to drift over in something this relaxed and quiet. Seatbelts are required in every seat, and that includes all nine here, so a full group means nine belts fastened. Children under four need an appropriate child seat, worth arranging in advance if you're travelling with little ones.

The verdict

Rent the Staria when the headcount is the whole challenge. For seven, eight or nine people with luggage, whether that's a family reunion, a group transfer from DXB or DWC, or a wedding shuttle, nothing in this class moves everyone and their bags as comfortably in a single vehicle. Accept that it's big to park, relaxed rather than quick, and thirsty on a long week, and it's the right tool for the job. For four or five passengers, size down to a seven-seat SUV. You'll park more easily, spend less on fuel, and your group will be just as comfortable.
