The torque arrives low, so unlike a big naturally aspirated V8 that wants revs to feel strong, this engine shoves a 2.5-tonne SUV to 100 km/h in around 6.7 seconds without working hard for it. On Sheikh Zayed Road that means overtaking needs no run-up and no planning, just a squeeze of the pedal.

Underneath, drive goes to all four wheels all the time, not only when you switch a dial, with a locking centre diff, a proper low-range transfer case and Toyota's Multi-Terrain Select and Crawl Control for soft sand and rutted tracks. That's the part a plush highway cruiser usually skips. It's also why the Land Cruiser, not the Patrol, is the vehicle most Gulf desert guides actually reach for.

Seats, boot and the honest cargo trade-off

Seven seats across three rows, and the middle row is genuinely good: wide, set high enough for a clear view out, and easy for two adults or three kids to sit in without anyone folded into a corner. That covers most family bookings on its own.

The third row is real, which already puts the Land Cruiser ahead of most rivals in this class, but be honest about what "real" means. Legroom back there is tight for grown adults on anything longer than a cross-town run, though it's fine for kids all day.
