It leans toward comfort over excitement. The ride soaks up the joints and speed bumps you meet around the city, the cabin stays hushed at 120 on the E11, and nothing about it demands attention.

If you want the same size of car with a sharper edge, more steering feel, and a livelier engine, the Honda Accord is the sportier pick on our fleet. The Camry trades that bite for calm, and most renters who choose it are choosing the calm on purpose.

Space, the boot, and your airport cases

Five adults fit, and the back seat is one of the better ones in this class. Two adults behind two adults have real knee and headroom, so a full car to a wedding or a desert resort isn't a squeeze. Rear passengers get air vents at the back of the centre console, which matters more in Dubai than almost anywhere, because the people in the back feel the heat just as fast as the driver does.

The boot holds 428 litres: two large suitcases plus a couple of cabin bags, or three medium cases packed flat. A family of four with a week of luggage from DXB will fill it but not be defeated by it. Four adults each with a big checked bag is where it gets tight, and that's the honest line for stepping up to a larger SUV.

Heat, the AC, and Dubai summers

This is the question that decides a summer rental. Park the Camry in open sun in July and the cabin will be brutal for the first minute, the same as any car. The AC pulls it back fast, though. The system is strong, and within roughly three to five minutes of driving with the fan up you'll have a genuinely cold cabin, front and back. The rear vents mean passengers behind you cool down on the same timeline you do, not ten minutes later. For a midsize sedan in 45-degree heat, the Camry copes as well as anything we hand over.

Running it: fuel, Salik, and the rules

The 2.5L sips fuel for its size. Around 7.4 litres per 100 km combined is realistic, and with the 60-litre tank you're looking at a long run between fills. A normal week of city driving and a couple of longer trips rarely needs more than one stop at the pump, and fuel here is cheap enough that it barely registers.

A few Dubai facts worth stating plainly. Salik tolls are on you, the renter, charged automatically as you pass the gantries on Sheikh Zayed Road and other crossings. Any RTA fines from the rental period pass to you as well, so watch the speed cameras. Seat belts are mandatory in every seat, and children under four need a proper child seat, which we can supply with the car.

Parking and city manners

At just under 4.9 metres long it's a midsize sedan, not a compact, so the tightest Marina multi-storey bays and tight U-turns ask for a bit of care. The flip side is good visibility, a light steering rack at low speed, and a reversing camera that makes the daily mall-ramp and valet routine easy. The 160 mm ground clearance is normal sedan height, fine for speed bumps and parking ramps if you take the steep ones at a sensible angle. It's a road car, so leave the soft sand and Hatta trails to a 4x4.

Who should rent it, and who shouldn't

Rent the Camry if you want the dependable midsize sedan that simply works: families and couples doing airport runs, long highway days, and city errands who value a quiet, comfortable car over a fun one. It's the choice you won't second-guess.

Look elsewhere in two cases. If you want the same space with a sportier, more engaging drive, take the Honda Accord. And if you're four adults each hauling a full checked bag, or you've got desert plans, size up to an SUV.
