Skip the deposit and we'll bring a 2022 Tesla Model Y to your door in Dubai, usually within an hour or two, with the no-deposit option on the table so you're not parking a chunk of cash for the week. The Tesla Model Y 2022 we rent is the Long Range dual-motor, an electric compact SUV that's quick, quiet and cheap to run once you've sorted out where you'll plug in. That last part is the whole decision. This is a genuinely good everyday car for someone comfortable charging, and a headache for someone who isn't. The rest of this page is about telling those two people apart, plus the honest range and ride notes nobody mentions until you've driven one in July.
The Model Y is a five-seat crossover, roomy for its footprint, with a flat floor and a tall roofline that make the back seat feel bigger than the numbers suggest. Two adults and two kids ride comfortably, and a fifth adult fits for shorter hops without anyone sulking. The cabin is minimalist to a fault. Almost everything lives on the central touchscreen: climate, mirrors, wipers, glovebox, even the speedometer, since there's no instrument cluster behind the wheel. If you like physical buttons, you'll spend the first day annoyed. By day three most people stop noticing.
The drive is the easy part. One pedal does most of the work once you're used to the regen braking, the steering is light, and the dual motors mean there's instant shove whenever you ask for it. It's fast enough to make merging onto Sheikh Zayed Road a non-event.

Treat the table as reference. The numbers that decide your week are range and boot, so here's what they mean on the road.
The WLTP figure is up to 533 km. You won't see that in a Dubai summer with the AC fighting 45-degree heat, highway speeds, and a full car. Plan for a real-world figure closer to 400 to 450 km on a mixed week, and less if you sit at 120 on the E11 with the cabin set to arctic. That's still a lot of driving. For most renters it means charging once or twice across the week, not nightly.
The catch is where you charge. If your building or hotel has a charger, or there's a reliable public point on your usual route, the Model Y is effortless and the running cost is a fraction of petrol. If you're relying on hunting down a free public charger after a long day, it stops being relaxing. Tesla's own network in Dubai is solid, and other chargers are spreading, but this is the question to answer before you book. Be honest with yourself about it.
Quick airport math: a DXB or DWC run and back is easy on a single charge, with plenty in reserve. A spontaneous drive out to the east coast or a long desert-road day is fine too, as long as you've topped up first and know your charging stop. The Model Y has the clearance for speed bumps and mall ramps but it isn't a dune car, so keep it on the tarmac.
This is where the Model Y quietly wins. The rear boot is large and deep, with a useful underfloor compartment, and the back seats fold flat for bigger loads. Up front there's a frunk, the storage where an engine would be, which swallows a couple of soft bags or the charging cable so it's out of the way.
In plain terms: a family of four with two large suitcases and a few soft bags has room to spare, which is more than most compact crossovers and far more than any sedan in the class. For an airport pickup with a week's luggage, it's one of the easiest cars we hand over.
Cabin cooling is strong. Park it in the sun at midday and the AC pulls the heat down fast, and you can pre-cool it from the phone app before you walk out, which is a small luxury that earns its keep in August. The big glass roof has a coating to cut the worst of the sun, though a parked cabin still bakes like any car here, so the app start is worth using.
Parking is straightforward. The car isn't large by SUV standards, the cameras give a clear view, and it slots into tight multi-storey bays without drama. The light steering makes U-turns and Marina ramps easy.
On the rules: Salik tolls run on the account and pass to you, and any RTA fines during your rental are yours too. Seatbelts are mandatory in every seat, and children under four need a proper child seat, which we can fit before delivery if you ask.
The ride is firm. On Dubai's smooth highways it's composed and quiet, but over broken patches and sharp speed bumps you feel more than you would in a softer crossover. The touchscreen-everything approach is divisive, and adjusting the mirrors or wipers through menus while moving takes getting used to. Neither is a dealbreaker, but you should know before you collect the keys.
Rent the Model Y if you've got reliable charging and you want a fast, spacious, cheap-to-run SUV for a week of city driving, airport runs and the odd longer trip. For a family that values boot space and a quiet cabin, it's one of the smartest picks we offer, and the app pre-cooling alone makes a summer rental nicer.
Skip it if charging is going to be a scramble. If you're staying somewhere without a charger and you don't fancy planning stops, a petrol crossover is the calmer choice and you'll spend less time thinking about your next plug. The Model Y rewards the prepared and frustrates the rushed. Know which one you are, and the decision makes itself.
