Tesla Model 3 2024 - start from 349 AED / day

The Tesla Model 3 2024 suits the renter who plans to drive a lot. If your week in Dubai looks like a daily commute, a couple of airport runs and evenings across town, this is the car that costs you almost nothing to keep moving, and we bring it to your door charged within one to two hours. This is the Highland facelift, so it's quieter, better finished and softer riding than the older Model 3s on our fleet. Your booking includes 300 km a day, which is more than most people here manage. The argument for it is running cost. The argument against it is a steering wheel with no indicator stalk.

What a week of driving actually costs you

Fuel is normally the line that quietly ruins a rental budget in Dubai, because a petrol sedan in this size class drinks steadily through stop-start traffic with the AC at full tilt. Here that line more or less vanishes. Charging overnight where you're staying costs a few dirhams for a day's worth of driving, and if your building or hotel bundles the charger into the parking, it can cost you nothing at all.

What doesn't vanish is everything else. Salik still bills you at every gantry, any RTA fine during the rental comes back to your booking, and you get 300 km a day included with anything beyond that at AED 0.5 per kilometre. That allowance is generous for city use. If you're planning a long day out and back, do the sums first rather than after.

Charging it here, and the range you'll really see

The claimed figures are 513 km or 629 km on the WLTP cycle depending on which version we hand over. Treat both as lab numbers. In a Dubai July, with the air conditioning working from the moment you sit down and some E11 speed in the mix, plan for something in the region of 350 to 450 km on a full charge. That is still a comfortable two or three days of normal city running between plug-ins.

Charging has stopped being the problem it once was. DEWA's public chargers are scattered across malls, hotels and a lot of residential basements, and Tesla's own Superchargers handle the fast top-ups on the main corridors. Depending on the version, the car will pull up to 170 kW or 250 kW from a Supercharger, which turns a stop into a coffee rather than an afternoon. The habit that makes this car easy is plugging in wherever you sleep, so you leave near full every morning and never think about it again. A long Hatta or Abu Dhabi day is the one trip that wants ten seconds of planning.

Boot space, back seat and threading it through a car park

SpecDetail

Claimed range (WLTP)513 km or 629 km depending on version

Front boot88 litres
Dimensions (L x W x H)4720 x 1849 x 1441 mm
Ground clearance138 mm

The boot is the part people underestimate. A sedan shape with a small opening usually means a compromise, but 594 litres behind the rear seats with a deep well under the floor swallows two large cases and soft bags without a fight, and the 88-litre front boot takes the charging cables and a backpack so they aren't rolling around your luggage. A family of four flying into DXB or DWC will be fine. Four adults each with a full-size case for a week is the point where you should be looking at something bigger.

The back seat is genuinely usable for two adults, and the third middle spot is a short-hop seat rather than a place to spend an hour. Taller passengers give up a little headroom to the roofline, though less than the shape suggests.

At 4.72 metres it's an easy car to place. The steering is light, the cameras are clear, and it drops into the narrow bays in Marina and mall car parks without much drama. The 138 mm clearance is ordinary sedan height, so take the sharper speed bumps and the steepest ramp lips slowly and nothing will catch. It is not a car for sand, and nobody should treat it as one.

Heat, the cabin, and the thing we warn people about

Pre-cooling from the phone app is the feature that changes a Dubai summer. Start it while you're finishing a coffee and you walk into a cool car instead of an oven, which matters more here than any figure on a spec sheet. Once you're moving, the front vents pull hard, there are rear vents so back-seat passengers aren't ignored, and this generation adds ventilated front seats, which is the single most useful thing Tesla changed. The glass roof looks good and soaks up heat when parked, so the pre-cool habit earns its keep.

Now the warning. On this facelift Tesla removed the indicator stalk and moved the indicators to buttons on the steering wheel spokes. For a week-long rental that's a real adjustment, because mid-turn and mid-roundabout your hands aren't where the buttons are, and Dubai asks you to indicate through a lot of U-turns. Most people are fine by day two. Some never warm to it. Give yourself twenty minutes in a quiet car park before you take it onto Sheikh Zayed Road, and check whether a screen-driven cabin with almost no physical switches suits how you like to drive.

Who should take this one, and who shouldn't

Take it if you're covering serious distance in a week, you can charge where you're staying, and you want the newest and quietest Model 3 we hand over. For a couple or a small family mixing daily driving with airport runs, the running cost is hard to argue with, and since we rent from 18 rather than 21, it's often the sharpest car a younger driver can actually get keys to here.

Skip it if your trip is tightly scheduled with nowhere convenient to plug in, or if the stalkless wheel and the screen-only controls sound like a week of low-grade irritation. Some people drive it once and switch back to a petrol sedan for exactly that reason, and that's a fair call rather than a failure of the car. If a desert or mountain trip is the point of your week, this is the wrong shape entirely and you want ground clearance instead. For everyone else doing a normal Dubai week, the 2024 car is the Model 3 worth paying for.
