That's still several days of normal city use for most renters.

The catch is the plug. If your hotel or residence has a charger, or you're happy using DEWA's public EV Green Charger network, the EQS is effortless. On a fast DC charger it takes up to around 200 kW, so a top-up to most of the battery happens while you have lunch. If you have no reliable charging at all and your week is back-to-back DXB and DWC runs, a petrol S-Class will be less hassle. The cabin is the reason to rent it

Inside, the EQS makes its case immediately. The optional Hyperscreen stretches the dashboard into one curved sheet of glass, the seats are deep and quiet, and the materials are genuine flagship quality. Road and wind noise are hushed to begin with, and without an engine the silence is total. For a couple gliding between Downtown and the Marina, or a business traveller who wants to arrive composed, few cars feel this serene.

It seats five, and rear passengers get real space thanks to the long wheelbase and flat floor. The boot holds 610 litres, opened by a hatchback tailgate rather than a conventional sedan lid, which makes loading larger items easier than the shape suggests. Cabin cooling is a strong point for a different reason than usual. You can pre-cool the car from the app before you walk out, so it's already cold when you open the door rather than baking. On the move the climate system is powerful and the rear vents keep back-seat passengers comfortable. In a Dubai summer that pre-conditioning trick alone is worth a lot.

Size, parking and the running rules

At over five metres long the EQS is a big car, and tight multi-storey bays in older Marina towers ask for care. The upside is light steering, rear-axle steering that tightens the turning circle, and excellent cameras, so it places more easily than its length suggests. Speed bumps and mall ramps are no issue for a low sedan with sensible clearance, though you take the usual care any long car needs over steep lips.

Salik tolls are billed to you as you pass the gantries, and any RTA fines during the rental pass to the renter as well. Belts are mandatory in all seats and a child seat is required for under-fours, which we can fit on request.
