A 550-litre boot in an economy sedan is the reason the Renault Megane 2020 makes sense as a Dubai rental, and it's where this page starts. We hand it over at your door in a couple of hours, payment sorted on delivery rather than locked up front. For a couple flying in and out, or a small family doing the airport-and-mall circuit, the question that decides the rental is simple: will the cases fit and will the fuel bill stay low. On both counts this five-seater does well. It's an economy-class car with a smart-looking cabin and a 1.5-litre petrol engine making 115 hp, calm rather than quick, and the rest of the page is about whether that fit is right for you.
The boot is the Megane's real edge in this class. At 550 litres it swallows more than the hatchbacks people usually cross-shop, and the loading lip is sensible. Two large suitcases plus a couple of soft bags drop in without a fight, which makes it a genuine airport car for a couple working DXB or DWC. A family of four heading off for a weekend will fit the cases too, as long as nobody's packing for a month. If you need buggies, bikes and the full family shop all at once, that's the point where a small SUV or an estate starts to make more sense.

This is the other half of the value case. On a week of mixed city and highway driving, with the AC working hard and plenty of idling, expect real-world use closer to 8 litres per 100 km than any lab figure. With a tank around 50 litres, that still gives a comfortable range between fills. A typical resident week of school runs, mall trips and a couple of longer drives means filling up once, maybe twice if you're commuting a long way daily. Petrol here is cheap, so however you drive it the Megane stays inexpensive to keep moving.
The 1.5-litre petrol makes 115 hp, and that's honest economy-sedan pace rather than anything brisk. Around town it's fine: pulling away, merging and threading traffic all happen without fuss, and the automatic keeps your left foot idle in the queues. On Sheikh Zayed Road it cruises happily at the limit. Ask for a quick overtake with four adults and luggage aboard and you'll feel it working, because there isn't much spare push in reserve. For most renters doing city miles that's a non-issue. If you regularly load four adults and want effortless highway pace, a 2.0-litre sedan is the better call.
Two Dubai realities decide whether a car is easy to live with: how it parks and how fast it cools. The Megane handles the first well. It's a compact sedan to thread, the light steering makes U-turns and reverse parking simple, and tight multi-storey bays and Marina ramps aren't a battle. Around 136 mm of clearance is normal saloon territory, so you take the steeper mall ramps and sharper speed bumps slowly and at an angle, but nothing scrapes in ordinary use. First-time visitors find it an unintimidating car to place.
Cooling is the second test. Park a sedan in the open in July and the cabin will be brutal at 45 degrees, like anything here. The Megane's AC is fine for the class. Front vents pull hard once running, and a normal saloon cabin doesn't take long to get comfortable up front. Rear passengers wait a touch longer if there are no rear outlets pushing air back. The honest move is the same for any car in Dubai: crack the windows for ten seconds as you get in, then let the system work. It copes with the heat; it just isn't a luxury climate setup.
Salik tolls run on your account during the rental, and any RTA fines from your driving pass to you, so keep an eye on the gantries and the posted limits. Children under four need a child seat by law, which we can fit if you're travelling with little ones. Beyond that the Megane is a straightforward car to rent and run.
Rent the Megane 2020 if you're a couple or a small family who values boot space and low running costs over outright pace, and you want a comfortable, easy sedan for airport runs and city life. The big boot and the cheap fuel bill are the whole argument, and the relaxed automatic suits Dubai traffic well.
Skip it if you want the higher seating position and commanding view a crossover gives, where a small SUV is the better fit. Skip it too if you're regularly four adults plus luggage chasing brisk highway pace, where a larger or more powerful sedan won't feel as stretched. For everyone in between, the Megane is a sensible, roomy car to spend a week with.
