White does more work than most colour choices on a Porsche Macan 2024, because a dark cabin left in a Dubai car park climbs fast, and pale paint at least gives the air conditioning less heat to fight before you even get in. Powertrain, and what it feels like to drive

This is the entry Macan, so the engine is a 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-four rather than one of the six-cylinder cars higher up the range. It makes 261 hp and 400 Nm, sent through a seven-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic to all four wheels, and Porsche's own numbers put it at 6.2 seconds to 100 km/h with a 232 km/h top speed. Those figures won't trouble a proper performance SUV, and if that's what you're after, look further up the Macan range or at something like a Cayenne S.

What the four-cylinder does deliver is the part that actually matters day to day: how the car changes direction. The steering loads up properly instead of going light and vague, the body stays flat through a fast on-ramp, and the PDK swaps gears cleanly enough that you forget it is there in normal traffic. Point it down Sheikh Zayed Road at speed and it settles rather than wallows, which is the whole reason someone chooses a Macan over a bigger, softer SUV in the first place.

Cargo space, rear seat and clearance

Five seats come standard. The back seat fits two adults for real, with enough knee room that nobody arrives cramped after a longer airport run, though the middle position is tight for anything past a short hop. The boot holds 488 litres, which is one large case and a couple of soft bags packed with a bit of thought, and folding the rear bench opens that out to roughly 1,500 litres if you need to move more than people on a given day.

Ground clearance sits at around 185 mm, on the low side for an SUV and noticeably lower than Porsche's own Cayenne. That is the trade for the sharper drive, and it means taking a steep mall ramp or a tall speed bump slowly and at an angle rather than driving straight at it the way you would in a taller car. At 4.7 metres long the Macan still fits a standard parking bay without a fight, and the white paint has one quiet advantage here too. It hides brake dust and the fine sand that settles on a car parked outside for a few days far better than a dark colour does.

Fuel stops and cabin cooling

The 65-litre tank and a combined figure of roughly 10 to 11 L/100km work out to somewhere around 600 km on a full tank in mixed driving, less once Dubai traffic and the air conditioning are both working hard. Plan on a mid-week stop if you are covering real distance rather than sticking to short trips. Salik tolls on your route and any RTA fines picked up during the rental come back to you, standard practice for any car here, and the 250 km included each day, with AED 0.5 for every kilometre past that, is enough room for normal driving without watching the odometer.

This is where the white paint earns its place, informally at least. A dark SUV left in an open lot at 45 degrees soaks up far more heat through the roof and bonnet than a white one does, and that heat has to come back out before the cabin feels normal again. The Macan's air conditioning is strong for the size of the cabin, with front vents pulling the temperature down within a couple of minutes once you are moving, and rear passengers get their own vents rather than waiting on air pushed back from the front. Even so, on a car that has sat in full sun for a few hours, give the doors a minute before you get back in and expect the seats to still carry some heat.

Who should rent it, and who should look elsewhere

Rent the Porsche Macan 2024 if it is one or two people, or a small family, and what you actually want is a Porsche that drives like one without the bulk of the bigger SUVs. It is the more sensible pick for anyone doing most of their driving solo or as a pair, with the back seat used occasionally rather than every day.

Look further up the range, or at a Cayenne, if four adults and a full set of airport luggage are a regular thing, or if the numbers above feel short of what you want from a sports SUV. As a Porsche, this one rents against a refundable deposit confirmed at booking rather than a no-deposit option, and you will need to be 25 to take the keys.
