We hand over the Porsche Cayenne 2022 to your door in Dubai within one to two hours, fuelled and ready, so the first thing you feel is the car and not the paperwork. This is the value pick in the Cayenne line: an older model year at a softer rate than the 2023 to 2025 cars, but the same idea underneath. A genuine performance SUV that steers and stops like something far smaller, while still swallowing a family and a week of luggage. The base 3.0 litre V6 turbo runs 340 hp through all four wheels and an eight-speed automatic, and it drives like Porsche meant it to. What follows is who that suits, and where you'd be happier in a softer luxury SUV.
The 2022 Cayenne we rent is the base car, not the S or GTS, and that matters for expectations. You get a single turbocharged 3.0 V6, 340 hp, and a 0 to 100 time of 6.2 seconds. For a two-tonne SUV that's quick, and on Sheikh Zayed Road the overtakes are effortless. Top speed is 245 km/h, which is academic here given the cameras, but the relevant part is how composed it stays at a steady 120 with the cabin quiet.
The cabin is where the money shows. Real materials, a low-set driving position, switchgear that feels engineered rather than decorated. It seats five, and four adults travel in comfort with proper rear vents feeding the back seats. That last point matters more than the spec sheet suggests, which I'll come back to.

This is the reason to pick the Cayenne over a comfort-led rival, and also the reason some people return it puzzled. The steering is precise, the body stays flat through a fast slip road, and the brakes are serious. It feels like a sports car that happens to be tall. The trade is ride firmness. On Dubai's better roads it's beautifully settled, but over patched tarmac and sharper expansion joints you feel more than you would in an air-sprung luxury barge. If your week is mostly smooth highway and the odd spirited drive, you'll love it. If you want a sofa on wheels, this isn't that car.
Worth saying plainly: a Cayenne's character depends heavily on options the original buyer ticked, like air suspension and adaptive dampers. The base car rides on steel springs, so don't expect magic-carpet float. What you get instead is honesty and pace.
The boot is the practical case for renting this over a sports saloon. Behind the rear seats you have room for two large hard cases plus soft bags, comfortably, and folding the 40/20/40 rear bench opens up serious flat space for an airport run with the whole family's kit. A DXB or DWC pickup with two adults, two kids and their cases is no stretch. Five travel well; this is a five-seater, so a sixth passenger means you size up to something with a third row.
Rear-seat passengers get their own air vents, which in this climate is not a luxury but a requirement.
In July, a Cayenne left in a mall car park gets brutally hot, like anything. The climate system is strong and pulls the cabin down fast once you're moving, and because the rear vents actually work, kids in the back stop complaining within a few minutes rather than ten. Park nose-out in shade where you can; the dark interior on the black car holds heat. The AC copes with 45 degrees without drama, but give it the first few minutes with windows cracked to dump the worst of the soak.
It's a midsize-to-large SUV at just under five metres, so Marina towers and older mall bays ask for a bit of care. The parking cameras and sensors make it manageable, and the turning circle is better than the size suggests. Ground clearance of 210 mm means speed bumps and steep mall ramps are a non-event; you won't scrape on the things that catch lower cars.
Salik tolls run on the renter's account, and any RTA fines or speed-camera charges during your rental pass to you, so watch the limits, they're enforced hard. Seatbelts are mandatory in every seat, and a child seat is required for under-fours; we can fit one on request. Some bookings carry stricter security terms given the car's value, so confirm the details when you book.
This is a turbo Porsche, so treat the economy figure as a ceiling, not a promise. Driven gently it'll sit around 12 to 13 L/100km, but enjoy the engine on an open road and it climbs quickly. With a 90 litre tank you'll get a useful range, roughly 700 km of mixed driving, which means most renters fill once across a week of normal city use. Push it hard and that drops. Premium fuel is the sensible choice for this engine.
Rent the 2022 Cayenne if you want a fast, beautifully built SUV that drives like a sports car, you value the badge and the bank-vault cabin, and the value of an older model year over the newer cars appeals. It's ideal for a family that wants pace and quality without stepping down to a soft crossover.
Skip it if comfort is your only priority. If you'd rather waft than corner, a Range Rover or a long-wheelbase luxury sedan rides softer and asks less of you. And if you need seven seats, this five-seater won't stretch. For everyone else who wants real driving character with room for the family, this is the smart-money Cayenne.
