The Nissan Versa 2024 is one of the cheapest automatics on our Dubai fleet, and that makes it an easy call for a solo renter or a couple watching what the week costs. This particular unit is white, automatic and front-wheel drive. It is also a private-import example badged for the North American market rather than a car Nissan sells new through its GCC dealers, but it has been through our checks and drives like an ordinary small sedan once you're behind the wheel. We deliver to your door within one to two hours of booking, and the question worth answering here is not whether the Versa fits your trip, but whether it actually suits it.

Under the hood, what the drive feels like

The Versa runs a 1.6-litre four-cylinder rated at 122 hp and about 155 Nm, paired with Nissan's Xtronic CVT and sent to the front wheels only. Around town that combination feels right for the job. Pulling away from a red light on Jumeirah Beach Road or nosing into a gap in mall traffic, the CVT keeps revs where they need to be and the car responds without a delay. Sheikh Zayed Road is a different story. Joining at 120 km/h or passing a slower truck on a rise both ask for a run-up rather than a late stab of the throttle, so give yourself a few extra seconds before you commit to an overtake. This is a city and commuter car first. It does the job well at the speeds most Dubai rentals actually see, and it is not trying to be anything more than that.

Cargo, back seat and everyday errands

The boot holds about 425 litres, which in practice means one large suitcase and a soft bag, with a bit of room left for a grocery run or a couple of backpacks. The back seat is genuinely fine for two adults on an airport transfer, and three across works for a short hop across town, but pile in a fourth person along with full luggage for a longer drive and the space runs out fast. Ground clearance sits around 130 mm, enough to clear standard speed bumps and the kerb cuts on most residential streets without a second thought. Steeper multi-storey ramps and the sharper humps you find outside some older buildings are the only places worth easing off for. At under 4.5 metres long and under 1.8 metres wide, the Versa slots into a tight Marina bay or a narrow mall level without much drama, which matters more in this city than most drivers admit until they're circling for a space.

The mileage deal, fuel and cabin heat

Nissan's own combined figure for this generation works out to roughly 15 km per litre, but that number comes from US testing and Dubai's stop-start city driving with the AC running hard will pull it down closer to 11 or 12. Even at that lower figure the 41-litre tank is good for somewhere around 400 to 450 km before you need to think about a fill-up, which is enough for most of a week's errands between visits to the pump. The included allowance on this car is 4,500 km for the whole rental, not a daily cap, so it is worth doing the math against how long you're keeping it. Over a week that works out to more than 600 km a day, far more than most renters use. Over a longer hire the total gets used up faster than it sounds, and every kilometre past it costs AED 1.0. Minimum driver age on this car is 23. Salik tolls and any RTA fines picked up during the hire are the renter's responsibility, on top of the rate.

A parked white sedan at 45 degrees in July still gets properly hot inside, and the Versa's small cabin actually helps a little here since there is less trapped air for the AC to fight. Point the front vents at yourself and give it three or four minutes and the worst of it clears. Expect the vents to do the work at the front only, which is normal for a car in this class, so a passenger in the back seat on the hottest afternoons will wait a bit longer for real relief. Cracking a window for the first few seconds before you climb back in helps more than people expect.

Book the Versa for a budget week, or size up

Rent the Versa if you're one person or a couple who wants a proper automatic sedan without paying for space you won't use. City errands, a daily commute and the odd airport run are exactly what this car is built for, and the badge being unfamiliar in Dubai doesn't change how it drives or what it costs to run. Two adults with a case each are comfortable for the whole trip. Size up to a mid-size sedan if you're regularly carrying four adults with full luggage, since the back seat and boot both get tight well before the week is out, or if long highway stretches at speed matter more to you than keeping the daily rate low. For a budget-focused solo trip or a couple splitting one rental, the Versa does exactly what it needs to and nothing gets in the way.
